Well this is very random! It's almost been 3 whole years since my last update. And what a 3 years it has been. I know nobody reads this anymore but I randomly stumbled upon it as I was clearing out my bookmarks. I've now sat for a good 2 hours reading all my previous entries and had such a giggle whilst doing so. What a silly girl I was 'back in the day' lol.
So what's changed in 3 years? Quite a lot!! On my last entry I described how I had just graduated and was looking forward to starting my probationary year in teaching. I had a wonderful yet very fast year in Hallside Primary and enjoyed every moment of it. Ofcourse as every NQT knows, it's the year after your inital year out where the worry begins and the job woes start bearing down on you. Luckily I managed to get a year supply post in Spittal Primary covering a Primary 5 class. It was quite a tough class but I was just grateful for the job! Sadly, that year came and went almost as quickly as the previous year had and the worries began again. I attended the South Lanarkshire interviews again, knowing there was very little prospect of getting a job in teaching. By some miracle though, on June 17th last year, I got an emailing informing me that I had secured a full time position in Cathkin Primary School, which is literally just a 5 minute drive from my flat. YES! And I've been there ever since. I have taught the most fantastic, eager, enthusiastic and lovely Primary 6 class this year. Even though I know I will be at Cathkin for the next years to come, I am going to feel very emotional saying goodbye to this set of children in the coming weeks. They have been such a fantastic class!
So that's my work situation! What else has changed? Well me and Craig are still very much together and we bought our own gorgeous home in November 2010. We stay in a lovely, modern flat in Cambuslang and are very happy together. Times were very tough when we initally moved in, though. Luck was definitely not on our side and Craig was made redundant on the very day we got the keys to our flat. With only being on a temporary contract myself at that time, we struggled for a couple of months and times were hard. It put a big strain on our relationship and we did have some very huge down days. We have come through them now, though, and are much still in love and happy. Craig managed to get a new job in tiling quite swiftly and is now working for the biggest tiling firm in the UK. It seems like things are just finally moving in the right direction for us. It was a test to our relationship but I think we have came out the other end even stronger!
I'm also now a very proud Auntie to the gorgeous Lucy Hodge. She's a breath of fresh air and has brought so much happiness and joy to all the family. Laura and Steven got wed in Las Vegas last April and we all made the journey to watch them get married at the Bellagio hotel. It was a day to remember and a holiday to remember! Can't wait to watch Lucy grow up and enjoy all the happy times that I'm sure she'll bring to our lives!
This year has been quite tough for me (get the violins out). The winds in the January blew our windows open in our gorgeous flat and brought the ceilings and walls down with it. It was utterly terrifying and something which I won't forget. After being temporarily fixed, the insurace took a while to get anything done. Meanwhile, I was taken into hospital in March with appendicitis. I was very, very sick and have never felt pain like it. The doctors really let me down and after being admitted on Saturday night, my appendix eventually burst on Tuesday night as they did not take it out on time. I was so unwell and I felt that nobody was listening to my concerns in the hospital until I was lying passed out with pain on the Tuesday. I was given an emergency operation on Tuesday night and had to stay in hospital for a further 5 days to clear the posion out my system. It was awful and really the fact the operation was delayed really halted my recovery. I was off work for 8 weeks and felt so teary about this, especially since it was my first, secured, teaching post. I have never taken a day off sick in my life, even when I have felt hungover in all of my 'wild' days and went into my part time jobs feeling the after effects of a night out. So to take 8 weeks off really knocked my confidence. Going back to the 'flat' situation, as soon as I came out of hospital, the insurace decided to finally repair our flat. Perfect timing - not! We were turfed out and had to stay in an apartment in town for 5 weeks whilst our entire flat was rebuilt. It was an extremely stressful time and I think that strain also hindered my recovery.
So that has brought me up to the present day! Oh, one very important point I have missed. Im a mummy! The gorgeous Phoebe came into my life last April and she has been a wee ray of sunshine! The best cat ever :-)
Maybe I wll update in another 3 years time and who knows what will have changed??
Bye for now x x x x
