I opened the door with the spare key hidden under the carpet and muttered an enthusiastic "Tadaima!" but I was welcomed by an eerie silence and a gloomy living room. The television was left on showing a certain episode of Detective Conan and I smiled as I remembered that Kei loves to watch that. I softly called out his name hoping that he would appear any second now but I received no response. I slowly ascended the stairs and the clicking sound became persistent and I smiled as I rushed to our bedroom. When I opened the door, I saw him seated comfortably on a chair in front of the table continuously typing with his eyebrows furrowed like he's trying to focus as much as possible. If he was trying to focus on his work.. well he's succeeding, because he didn't notice that I'm just a few meters away from him now.
"Kei" I softly called.
"Shh, Yuto okaeri" He quickly answered snapping at me. I walked closer and saw his fingers red and shaking already with few blisters. I reached for his hands urging him to stop and he looked at me with painful, desperate eyes.
"Don't Yuto...I'll forget." He pleaded and I smiled at him and pulled him in my arms but a cold wind passed by me , I looked at him confused but decided to shrugged it off seeing the painful look in his eyes.
"I'll write for you then." I told him and he beamed at me and stood up to let me sit on the chair in front of his laptop and he went to get another chair as he positioned himself beside me.
"Arigatou Yuto!" He smiled.
~
His face was beaded with sweat. He couldn't believe that his love, his other half, his life left him and he knew that he would never see the smile that lit up his whole world, he would never hear the voice that made his world happy, the voice that made him feel that he was loved, he would never look into that curious brown orbs that contained all the hidden messages that only he could understand which speaks of love, he would never touch those lovely fingers again that brought color not just to his life but to others as well, those fingers that used to create melodies that makes everybody fall in love again, those fingers that created new worlds out of the pages of the books, those fingers that fitted exactly to the spaces between his own. He ran outside his house realizing just how much he needed the person he loves the most on his special day, he ran and he ran until he reached a lake...
"Kei?" I looked up when he did not continue and I saw him smiling lovingly at me.
"Yuto Thank you for doing this for me..do you want to hear the rest of the story? He asked me as he slowly extends his hands to touch my cheeks, I nodded as I leaned to his cold hands. He started tracing vertical lines from my eyes and I realized that those were tears that he was tracing, tears that I didn't even know that existed. He leaned closer and asked to close my eyes I could feel his cool breath on my ears and he whispered something.
"Remember Yuto, please remember me."
I gasped when I felt like the cold air is trying to envelope me and I shuddered as I slowly opened my eyes but saw no one.
"Kei?" I called out and looked around the room but saw no signs of him except for old pictures hanging on the wall and papers scattered on the floor. I looked back at the laptop and re-read what I've just written then it struck me. I stood up and ran outside despite the sharp, stinging sensation of the rain against my skin.
"No..Kei..Not today" I ran and ran just like the man on the story and I reached the lake, I walked closer and I looked at my reflection on the serene water, then I realized that the rain has stopped long ago and it is the tears that are continuously soaking my clothes wet. I smiled bitterly as I saw the reflection of the moon and looked up to the second most beautiful creation in the world next to him. The moon could not even compare its beauty to Kei because there's no other creation as beautiful as him. I looked down again but something across the lake caught my attention and I ran toward it. It's a rectangular marble and on top of it, there's something engraved.
Inoo Kei
June 22, 1990-August 10, 2010
a loving son, devoted writer, performer and the world's greatest lover.
My knees gave up as I continuously called out his name. I remembered already everything from the moment he went out of the house that fateful day and how I waited for his return for my special day, but he never went back, later that day I learned that he died trying to save a little kid crossing the road. Even in death he was still beautiful with a smile etched on his face, if I could just see his eyes one last time then maybe I could know what his last thoughts were.
"Kei gomenasai, it's been a year hasn't it? Were you planning something for me that day? If you could just stayed home, then maybe you're still with me now." I tried my best to control my wracking sobs because I, above all, knew just how much Kei hates it when I cry. Suddenly a cold wind passed by again this time I know who it is and I smiled bitterly and called him.
"Kei?"
"Yutti~" an angelic voice emerged from behind and when I turned around I saw the most beautiful creation once more and tears started to flow again. He looked at me skeptically and he put his hands on his hips.
"I told you I hate it when you cry!" He shouted at me with a grin on his face.
"G- -gomen- -asai, I- -just co-couldn't help it" I said in between sobs and he laughed, the laughter that I wished I could hear forever. I could feel him enveloping me in his arms.
"Yuto.." He started
"I love your smile so please cheer up now, you've been suffering for so long already and I don't want to see you like that forever so please continue now on your life, it has been a year, I may not be there beside you anymore just like before but my image on your mind is enough, just remember all our special memories together and you'll get better in time. Face it Yuto, don't try to forget again, after all that I've done to let you remember again. Yuto face it, don't forget it, that's the only way you could heal, I'm already gone and yes it hurts but that's the only way you could move on. Accept it my love and who knows, I might say something to you as a present." He said and I looked at his smiling form.
"What?" I asked. He leaned closer and whispered something in my ears.
"You may not see me but I'm always beside you." He said and he look at me with those loving eyes which conveyed nothing but his love for me but his form started to become more transparent and just before he disappeared he said.
"Happy Birthday Yuto..my love."
I looked up at the moon and smiled.
"Arigatou Kei."
I made my way back home.
"I already know the ending to your story, a wonderful story indeed my love." I whispered as I opened the gate to our house and I felt a cold touch on my lips and I laughed, this time a real laughter.
"Silly, Kei" I mused as I entered the house again.
AN: I rushed home after my philosophy class because I really need to write this, gomen ne the idea wasn't really that angsty, I was planning a Kei that needs Yuto for him to survive but blame philosophy okay!:)) uhh the story that Yuto wrote is his story, Kei was like dictating him parts of the event to help him remember and Inoo on the first part was just an illusion. oh whatever~
This is obviously a birthday fic for my lovely prince Nakajima Yuto!!
Nakajima Yuto,
I will not say that I love you as much as I love Inoo and Hikaru but you know that I really adore you right? after all you're one of my lovely princes.
