A/N: What a hard time I had writing this since one of my cats was sleeping on my arm and other climbing up and down my back. Anyway I like how it turned out.
Hot fire is flickering in the fireplace with small flames, giving warmth to the cold room and the person sitting in the comfortable arm-chair near it. He sits there with blanket over him and with his legs moved under himself and book with black cover in his hands. On the small table next to the arm-chair is a lamp placed which light he uses to read in this late winter evening and a cup of hot chocolate. He sighs and wonders where his boyfriend is taking so long today. He is about an hour late. It’s not like he is counting time but just because of fact that a big round clock hangs on the wall upon fireplace and it just happens that he glances that way, time by time.
His mind wanders off the wonderful story he just read, not even wanting to return to it, and he closes his eyes, soaking in memories it made him to remember.
Odor of flowers is filling the room since they are so many and different kinds, colors, staring from red to some yellow and violet. He almost feels like drowning in the flower garden oh so big, and at the end of his bedroom he finds DongHae gazing in his pretty shocked face with a sheepish smile and a single red rose in his hand.
“Why so much flowers?” Henry finally asks, gesturing around to the vases of flowers. As his nose catches a lovely scent, he leans in to smell it, fingertips lightly lifting up the closest flower’s head, while DongHae is still thinking of an answer.
“Well, you said that you like flowers,” DongHae murmurs, taking a few light steps closer to Henry and handing the flower to the (by now already) confused boy.
Henry takes it, twirls around his fingers, and a smile curve his pretty lips. “And that’s why so much, because I like them? Is there a reason for trying so much?”
“I have been trying to say you something for some time already and every time I try to speak it doesn’t catch your attention or someone breaks in the conversation,” DongHae is slightly looking down, his eyes shifted on the red rose, “but it’s a pretty short confession…. I-I love you,” last words are barely above whisper from the nervousness that still lays in his body and mind. And DongHae waits, his eyes cast low, when silence lies upon the room, birds being the only one making sounds (heard through the open window), chirping outside so happily.
“First, I always listen because whatever you say seems important for me to hear. Second, I love you too, baby,” Henry words tickles against DongHae’s ear and lingers in the air long after it had been said.
DongHae inhales, not noticing before that he had been holding his breath. He looks up and grins. Henry smiles back and adds,”next time not so much flowers, with one it will be enough.”
DongHae laughs with happiness and then they kiss.
Henry opens his eyes and takes a sip of his already warm drink. He smiles to the empty room, waiting for it to be filled with DongHae’s happy laughter and his loud voice.
“Baby, let’s go,” DongHae exclaims to the confused Henry. And so Henry is being pushed and pulled by over energetic DongHae until the door. They stop, and Henry turns around to face DongHae, wondering what his boyfriend is up to this time. It’s not like the every other time was bad but just that they end up in a big trouble and mostly it was run and hide thing from someone who is angry.
“To where?” Henry asks with a slight frown on his face.
DongHae pinches Henry’s cheek lightly, grinning from ear to ear, and answers, “Be happier, we’re going to amusement park.”
Henry caresses the place on his cheek where it was red from the pinch, answering, “And when were you going to tell me?”
“Well, I already did,” DongHae chirps and hands Henry his jacket. Henry laughs slightly amused by the way of his boyfriend’s thinking.
“Then I guess, you leave me no choice but to agree,” he answers, slight smirk playing on his lips and they leave, DongHae’s talking heard as they are walking down the street. First autumn leaves are starting to fall.
And there was also a time when nothing was going right. At least not how they wanted to.
“Listen to me. They can’t separate us, they simply can’t,” Henry kisses DongHae’s temple, hair, running his finger in soothing circles over DongHae’s back. DongHae is crying, and he can’t stop his own tears from escaping when he wants to be strong just for him.
“They’ll eventually,” DongHae whispers, his words partly muffled since he had hidden his head in the crook of Henry’s neck, sounding more broken than ever before, then ever wanted to be.
“I won’t let,” Henry promises.
With a sudden push that Henry didn’t expect, DongHae breaks free from his embrace and looks up, broken from the pain, saying, “Better leave me. Now. They are possibly waiting for you.”
“Huh?”
“Leave me. I said leave me,” DongHae practically shouts, despair heard in his words and tears falling down. “Give up on me. This is not worth,” he chokes on his own words, what is such a lie, trying not to break, “not worth the life we have.”
“No, it is,” Henry doesn’t give up. He just can’t give when his heart is breaking in pieces for their love. He doesn’t want to wonder and ponder how it would have been, but enjoy that for real. He wasn’t going to give up.
“It is,” He repeats and doesn’t leave until DongHae understands what is better than being alone, even when everyone else is against it.
And those memories fade in background as Henry hears a sound from outside what suspiciously sounds like a car, and he leaps on his feet, the forgotten blanket and book falling out of his lap. He throws them back into the arm-chair and looks out of the window. Joy then fills him as he sees the very familiar car in front of the house. DongHae is home, finally.
He practically runs to the outdoor and swing it open with a one fast move, revealing himself to DongHae who is just getting out of the car by now.
“You know what? I already missed you,” Henry says from the doorsteps, catching DongHae’s attention.
“I wasn’t away for that long, actually,” DongHae smiles wide, locking his gaze with Henry’s.
DongHae locks the car and approaches Henry, one of his hands hiding something behind his back. Henry notices that, throwing questioning looks that way, but DongHae pretends to not see that, grinning wider than before with a look like he has something in his mind.
“It was for a whole day and besides you’re being late today,” Henry leans against the door frame and crosses his arms over his chest, his eyes following his boyfriend’s every move with a smile.
“Well, I wanted to make a little surprise for you and lastly got caught in traffic,” he stops in front of Henry and reveals the thing he had been hiding. A little prettily wrapped box, slightly bigger than his hand was lying in his open palm.
“For me?” Henry asks with a surprise, and his eyes sparkle with happiness.
“It’s not Christmas anymore or New Year yet, but anyway I wanted to buy a small gift for you,“ DongHae’s words give inside that damn well known fluttering feeling he likes so much. He takes it in his hands. It feels light in his hand and so pretty that he doesn’t want to shred the wrapping-paper.
“Thank you,” Henry practically beams by now and gives a short peck on DongHae’s lips and another on the tip of his nose.
DongHae chuckles, saying, “It tickles... Let’s go in.”
He passes Henry, takes his coat and shoes off, being in hallway, and walks in the living room where the fire is still flickering in the fireplace. He stands close and reaches his hands out to let them warm up. Henry follows him, opening the gift with as less damage as he can cause, and stops with a look surprise spread on his face just a second before he breaks into a wide smile, wider than before.
A small shinny thing that lies in his hand is a silver necklace, very pretty. He goes and embraces DongHae from behind, resting his head on his shoulder.
“Thanks you,” Henry whispers, tickling his ear, “and wanted to ask you, how about that I make you a hot drink?”
“That sounds good,” DongHae murmurs in answer. He takes the shiny thing from Henrys’ hand and before he could react; it’s around his neck, DongHae leaving a quick kiss on his neck. “Looks good on you,” he whispers before breaking their contact, and Henry holds back a wish to pull DongHae in a one tight embrace, afraid that he may just squeeze him to death with all his sudden happiness.
Henry turns around, feeling a bit like drunk that very moment almost forgetting what he needed to do. He is that happy and absentmindedly he reaches for the necklace, brushing his fingers against it.
“Just don’t miss the right door,” DongHae warns from behind, as he sees that Henry is passing it already.
“Huh? Oh yeah,” his cheeks blush slight pink and he quickly disappears in the kitchen.
Later they both are settled down in one side of the dining table, chattering lightly, and Henry is happy that they are together, his eyes blazing with love, and DongHae understands that.
