i genuinely need to take accountability for how truly ignorant & uninformed i am about middle eastern conflict & history. As a Jordanian, who Isreal shares 1/2 its border to - Jordan, home to 300,000+ Palestinian refugees - I was taught absolutely nothing in school about this. We never even acknowledged Palestine as a country in geography. my Middle School had my dad come in & talk about Middle Eastern culture to subside some of the hate & threats I was getting from kids in 2001. All the teachers did was have hummus snacks for everyone. I learned nothing that day, even from my own dad- who was most likely just trying to be understood with a heavy accent.

I feel really stupid.
