Antwerp Gypsy Ska Orchestra.

Tonight I spontaneously went to a Ska Gypsy band from Antwerp. Rose could get me in for free as she was writing a review about them for 3voor12.

I was curious about seeing them cause I have lived amongst Gypsies my whole life and my experiences with them weren't that positive. I always knew there are different "kinds" of Gypsies.
The ones around me are Roma and small and mostly overweight.. and they don't work or actually do not want to do anything with the Dutch society they live in.

Anyhow, they were AWESOME. Due their genre there was a mixed audience excisting of Ska fans, Punkers, and ofcourse, Gypsies. (One girl could dance amazing with a hoolahoop, I never saw such a thing!) The bandmembers were overal.. very handsome and very entertaining. They're influenced by a lot of kinds of music and styles and it's such a treat to the ears. The vocals were a mix of Roma, French, Dutch (!) and English.

The vocalist mentioned that in their younger years they used to me a punkband, he even did a demonstration which blew my mind. Gypsies who do punk? Isn't that something?
