Greetings from Jacksonville Beach, Florida!
I've been wanting to stay at the beach for years, so I decided to come to Florida a day early for my cruise and stay here at Jacksonville Beach. I got here around noon and was lucky that my room at the Best Western was ready early. Ocean front room with a balcony was well worth a few extra bucks.
I was surprised to find the dunes full of prickly pear cactus.
I went to the fishing pier and had a great time watching the fishermen. seems like most of them were catching these little sharks. the guys were calling them shovel head sharks but I don't know if that's their real name.
this cormorant(?) was cool to watch diving, it was able to stay under a long time.
everytime the tide went up or down, so did the life guard stands!
I got up at 5 this morning to go on the beach to catch the sunrise. something else I'd always wanted to do. so worth it.
now I'm off to pick up a few souvenirs then I'll be catching the shuttle to the cruise ship. I doubt I'll have internet on the ship as it's so expensive so I'll update when I get home. see ya!
