So, last weekend was one for the record books. I may break this up into multiple entries, but to start.
Saturday, it started out just like about any other day. However, late in the night things turned for what could have been quite horrible. While walking through the ED I found a group of individuals coming in from a club where a fight had broken out and the victims (if u can call them that) were coming in for head wounds. While that was going on a few other individuals were here looking for a friend that was completely unrelated. I can't speak for exactly what was said (all parties claimed they were unrelated and did not know each other. However, at some point the females that were talking to the individual who was seeking treatment for the head wound sustained in the club fight left to speak to the other males (who again were unrelated) and a fight broke out. The male with the injury pulled out a pistol (9mm glock) and began fighting with the males here to look for their friend. He pistol whipped one guy in the head (who later left to seek treatment at another facility) and began pointing the gun at them. When we heard the call for security there was no original mention of a gun and as we came on scene he put his gun back into his pocket. As we began to investigate to figure out what happened we were told that one individual had a gun on property, but not as to who had it. I walked to the waiting room to control the male in the room. He was yelling and a staff member notified me that he was involved in the fighting. When I approached him, also as the other males began approaching, he pulled the gun out again and pointed it directly at me. I carefully backed up to give him his room and the other officer began pushing the others out of the room. The police were notified and we began evacuating people from the area. He remained in the area, largely because of all the locked doors, and after the fact it became apparent that he was not going to attempt to shoot anyone other then possibly the individuals he was fighting with. However, The police came on scene and we continued to evacuate the remaining patients, visitors and staff from the surrounding area. Finally after quite a few officers arrived on scene they managed to find and secure the individual with the gun. Once that was done we began to sift though the staff and visitors who were present for the entire ordeal. All together about 3 hours passed from start to finish.
Then came the reports. Such fun.
