Author’s Note: Merry Christmas Everyone. Hopefully I can get more stories out before I go back to school in January. Sorry if this offends anyone, you’ll see what I mean.

Christmas time, the ONE time of year that family and friends mean everything and this year was going to be different, they knew it, all nine of them knew that, it was bound to get better, after the ups and downs of the year, the next year was bound to be better.

“Merry Christmas!” Yabu said as he entered the practice room for the first time that morning, the room only held two people and they were deep in conversation. “Yuto? Yama-chan?” Yabu tried again but they were not fazed. “Oh well.” He said and sat down on the couch. It took a few minutes but they finally looked up and noticed him.

“Oh Merry Christmas!” they said together.

“What are you working on?”

“A gift for Chinen,” Yuto answered

“Which is what?” Yabu asked them, they had such a smirk on their faces that he had to ask.

“You’ll see,” Yamada said simply, “it’s nothing bad, we’re not Hikaru.”

“Yes, I’m aware of that, but you are Yuto and Yama-chan, meaning, you two are smarter and can come up with weirder things than that goofball ever could.”

“I heard that!” Hikaru said from behind Yabu, with him were Daiki and Inoo. “And I take offense to that! Like they could EVER out prank me!”

“Uh, are you forgetting that one time?” Daiki asked him with a smile on his face. Daiki was about to elaborate but Hikaru quickly covered his mouth.

“That! Was not a prank! It was EVIL!” Hikaru argued, “And why did you bring that up? You promised me you wouldn’t.”

“Hikaru calm down, he was only proving you wrong,” Inoo defended.

“Can we get back to our planning now?” Yamada asked. “Chinen only asked for one thing this year; do any of you know what that is? When you figure it out, come to this address, it’s a park.” With that the two of them left the room. Let the members argue amongst themselves.

Instead Yamada and Yuto sought out Chinen who was somewhere in the building, most people go to the roof of buildings when they are sad, so that is where they headed. “Chii!” Yuto said as they saw him sitting and staring at the city like it was nothing, “Merry Christmas!”

“Merry Christmas, you guys.” He said simply, he was in no way in a celebratory mood. “Sorry. I’m just not feeling cheerful today.”

“How about we go have some cake?” Yuto offered. “Christmas cake is always good today.”
“With Strawberries!” Yamada added. “C’mon it’ll be good, besides its cold up here!”

“Cake is good, let’s go.” Chinen agreed with a small smile. They pulled him up and then together they made their way to the cake shop down the street, it took about a half an hour since they had to find their way through the building but because of this, the shop was crowded with people. “Aw, now where are we going to go?”

“We have an idea, don’t worry” Yuto said, “I’ll get us a cake, you guys wait outside.”

“You have a plan?” Chinen asked Yama-chan, “What is it?”

“You’ll see. Trust us, you’ll like this plan.” Yamada told him.

“But it’s cold out here, where are we supposed to go?” Chinen asked looking around, “Back to the agency? No way, they’ll make us share!”

“I don’t share cake Chinen, you know that, only those invited for cake can have some.” Yamada responded. They stared in the windows after that, and got excited when they saw Yuto coming with their boxed cake. He exited the shop with a chill but they started walking away, forcing Chinen to follow, especially if he wanted cake.

“We’re going to a park?” Chinen asked disbelievingly, “You guys know it’s like -5 out here right?”

“Nothing that some hot cocoa can’t cure,” Yamada said immediately, earning him a nudge in the side by Yuto.

“Hot cocoa?” Chinen asked but didn’t need a response because in the middle of this square was a picnic set up with thermos of what he guessed to be cocoa, a large pile of dessert plates and six people sitting together, huddled in warm clothes. “Ten chairs?”

“You made it! We thought you got lost!” Hikaru said simply while getting up from his seat to take the cake from Yuto.
“Yeah right. Us getting lost with cake, that we’d eat ourselves and not share with our friends....sure,” Yamada said and took the open place between Takaki and Keito. Yuto took the other open seat between Yabu and Inoo leaving only one seat near the head of the table.

“Merry Christmas,” Chinen told the others. They took their turns saying it back before Yabu stood up to cut the cake that he had taken from Hikaru. Keito stood up to pour the cocoa for each of them. “Wait a minute, Keito, why did you pour a tenth cup? I’m cold but I don’t need two.”

“I didn’t pour it for you Chinen,” Keito said simply while smiling at the boy. Chinen looked confused looking at Keito, but then realized that he and all the others were looking past him. “What’s go~” Chinen turned to look in the direction the others were staring at but couldn’t finish his sentence. “Ryutaro?”

“That cup is for me,” he answered while stepping more into view.

“You were gone.” Chinen stated and still a little shocked, “You never answered my calls, or my constant ringing of the doorbell. Your brother told me you were out of the country, just to make me stop. Why did you do that?”

“I had to,” Ryutaro told him. “Yuto and Yama-chan called me yesterday and asked me to come here, so we could spend Christmas together like we’ve done for years but I see now that this may have been a bad idea.” He turned to leave but Chinen grabbed his arm.

“Don’t you dare,” he warned and forced the younger boy to sit down at the head of the table. “Yuto and Yama-chan did this for me, you better not leave.”

“I won’t.” Ryutaro said and Chinen let go of his arm. “Merry Christmas you guys.” They all responded and the conversation went back to normal decibels. They shared their cake and cocoa and had a good time until it was nearly 11pm, “I have to get going you guys.”

The others agreed and they started to pack up their things. As they all said goodbye, and went their separate ways, Chinen stopped Ryutaro. “You promised you wouldn’t leave.”

“I didn’t.”

“But you’re leaving now,” Chinen pointed out. “I meant never.”

“I won’t ever leave you, I’m always there, you know that, forever. No matter where you are, I’ll be with you.” Ryutaro told him. “I have to go now.”

“What?” Chinen said out loud but the scenery changed. He was in his bedroom, on the floor with Yuto, Keito and Yamada, all in sleeping bags with a Christmas cake in the middle of them. “All a dream.”

“Are you okay Chii?” Yamada asked waking up from his sleeping bag,

“I’m fine, or rather I will be,” he said simply.

“I had the weirdest dream, we were all eating cake in a park, all ten of us, isn’t that weird.”

“I did too, but that’s impossible now,” Chinen added, thinking of what had happened, he blinked tears his eyes and faked a calm composure, “Merry Christmas Yama-chan.”

“Merry Christmas Chinen.” Yamada lied back down and promptly fell back to sleep.

There was nothing different in the room except for one thing; someone was holding Chinen’s hand, except no one actually was, but he could feel it. He was there, like he promised.

Author’s Note: Okay, Merry Christmas to those you read all the way through and are ready to kill me. Just so you know I’m fully aware that Ryutaro is not dead, and though it was implied he was, I assure you this was purely fiction, a wish in order to write something at Christmas. I’m good at writing tragedy and angst and prefer this over fluff. Any fluff I tried to write for this holiday was blown away by the crap that happens in RL. But if you do want to kill me, leave me a comment. Yup that’s good.
