Chapter 4: Inoo’s Story.

They sat in front of him with eager eyes; there was no way Inoo was getting out of this one. He was going to tell them this story and it had better be good.

“Okay you guys, where should I start?”

“Start with the truth, and then go with the flow,” Yoru suggested.

“Alright, that was no help.” Inoo took a deep breath and then divulged into the story. Rina just stared at her grandfather, patiently waiting for this so-called love story.

“When I was little, well not really little, more like younger, well on the other hand it could be little,” Inoo started.

“Grandpa!” Yoru whined.

“Oh sorry, I’m starting right at the beginning,” Inoo said and then started again.

“When I was little, I, as you know joined the Johnny’s Entertainment Industry, from there I went on to build a career and make a name for myself but I was only like ten. For me personally, it was way too early in life to be throwing myself out there for people, but I managed to stay in and out of the spotlight. I let other people take up that position and that person was Yabu Kota, he craved and loved being in the spotlight, although he was kind and gentle to everybody, people just ate the attention up like he was starved or something. He loved every bit of it. It was his time, his chance, and he wanted to make a name for himself and he did, everybody loved the Golden Boy of Ya-Ya-Yah. That was his first group you know, at first I was a back dancer for him and soon I came to be a part of my own group, J. J. Express. Of course this information is stuff you already know, but what you don’t know is the specific details. The details that I have told few people, not even your grandmother knew these details. They were specific details that were only known by those who were there.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“For there was a small boy in my group, a boy that I loved more than anything in the world, it wasn’t a romantic type love that would cause people to look at me a different way though, not that it is a bad thing but it just wasn’t my thing. This boy was named Nakajima Yuto. He was my younger brother, I loved him and I watched over him as he grew up to become a big star in our group, having talents in many different fields was a good thing in the agency and due to his success he was able to rise to the top immediately. Not to mention that he was incredibly cute. At first he was just a short little boy who liked to join in and prank people who happened to be passing by. I was a target for many years. He followed his older brother, and later to be his partner in crime Yaotome Hikaru, another of Ya-Ya-Yah, into the many pranks that happened to come on me.
“Hikaru and I shared Yuto as our little brother, we both loved him, but Hikaru had another thing he loved more and gradually moved on to something else. Though never giving up his partner in crime they continued to prank anyone and everyone.
“The members of J.J. Express and the members of Ya-Ya-Yah were associated together for a long time, probably a good four years or so before we split up and formed one big group, Hey! Say! JUMP. Again this is something you now. Now at first it was awkward for the ten of us, it shouldn’t have been because we had been working together for so long but it was, you see for we had lost our best friends, people we’ve spent hours and hours with practicing and failing all at the same time, people who weren’t chosen to debut, who were left in the dark and were not able to debut. I don’t even know what had happened to those people. All I knew is that I had a new group, a group with a few of my best friends, and my little brother, of course we got new little brothers but that’s not the point, Yuto was mine.
Many things happened in that first year we had debuted, there were so many things going on; we released three singles and had drama audition after audition, as well as musicals and commercials and we were forced to make appearances where we really didn’t want to be and again I was thrown into the back of the group, meant to have little or few solos but still keep the group intact. I didn’t feel bad about it though, not being in the spotlight allowed me to make a few mistakes and not have anybody catch me, it was good, I wasn’t the best and I was awkward in front of people, that is why I used my “beauty” as my go to, it was a switch that I become, off camera I was me, the me you see now, but a lot younger, on camera I was sent to the back not really getting any time but I was okay with it. I was still there, I still had a job and I was still able to go to school whenever I wanted.
“In my first year of University I met the woman of my dreams. She was the most beautiful thing I’d seen in a long time, your grandmother Yuriko. I fell in love with her at first sight but I was too shy, believe it or not, to speak to her. She was in an entirely different program than I was so I never thought we’d have anything in common. It turns out, we did, we had a mutual friend who happened to be hanging out with her when I had casually bumped into them when I was out with Hikaru and Daiki, shopping and avoiding the fans. It turns out that she was a fan of my little brother, yup she was a fan of Yuto and we clicked instantly.
“I had admitted to Hikaru not that much later that I was in love with Yuto, and he took it in a good way. I don’t know why or how he seemed to understand but he did. He understood and he didn’t judge me, of course when we were alone he’d make fun of me to know end but I didn’t care, he didn’t judge.
“It wasn’t until we were told that we were going to be doing another single that I got enough guts to tell him. It was actually Daiki that had indirectly gotten us together, it was weird though, it was like he knew or something, I sure as heck never told him, nor was I about too. He had urged me to ask the boy to dinner and it took me an entire day and a lot of threatening to get people to not ask out Yuto.
“That day there were a lot of senpai’s around, senpai’s that adored Yuto, for he was loved by everybody, and several people had sought out to find him. I had issued several threats that day, several dishes of dirt that only I knew about that could have easily made its way around the entire agency, even the older ones, just by telling a couple of people. They stopped after that. Nobody else came near him, I’m sure it was a horrible way to do it and I wasn’t sure if he ever found out or not but that is what I did. And Dai-chan got us together, it’s thanks to him, wherever he is now, that I was able to see admit my feelings to my little brother.”
“That is an awesome story! Is there more? There seems like there’s more!” Rina said excitedly.
“Of course there’s more, having the chance to admit one’s feelings is not a reason to quit the one excuse to see him every day.” Yoru told his sister off.
“I guess that is true, tell us more!”
“Then you have to stop interrupting him!” Yoru was annoyed. “I shall continue now,” Inoo said softly and both kids shut up.
“Yuto! Where are we going?” Inoo asked as he was being dragged by Yuto, they had been walking for a good fifteen minutes or so already and at a fast pace too. Inoo had made the mistake of allowing Yuto to pick whatever place he wanted to go, the mistake that could have had major regrets.
When they finally stopped, Inoo breathed a sigh of relief that it wasn’t anything too weird; he had heard from the others that whenever Yuto brought them out to dinner they would end up in the middle of nowhere, lost and hungry and then they’d have to ask how to get out of the area so they could get home. But Yuto had actually brought them to a little café. It looked like it could have been a French Bistro or something close, but it was in the middle of nowhere and it was completely out of place.
They walked through the doors and were welcomed by the few workers there. They sat down at a table in a corner and Yuto told Inoo where they were. “Kei-chan, welcome to my favourite café, they’re famous for their food, it’s delicious.”
“Nakajima-kun! Welcome back,” the waitress said as she approached them, ‘ah you brought someone new. Hello there, what would like to order?’
“Yup, two cakes please!” Yuto ordered for them and Inoo just smiled as he watched the two people interact. ‘I’m here all the time; it was actually Yama-chan who introduced me to this place. Apparently, he had enough getting lost or something or we found this place.’ Inoo laughed, “He would, and I’m guessing it was that picture of the strawberry shortcake that I saw in the window right?” “Yes actually, I thought it’d be fun to come here with the other members as well. So one by one I brought, well at least I attempted to bring everyone, but I ended up getting lost every time. I’ve only successfully managed with Yama-chan, Dai-chan and now you.”
Inoo had felt a little sad that he was the last to be chosen to go to cake with Yuto but he obviously had a reason right? But he didn’t let his sorrow show; he just kept on smiling comfortably in the conversation. Yuto was always so delighted when he talked about everyone else. He loved it, he loved everyone and he got along with everyone. Inoo’s only problem was that he never talked about him. His well-developed eavesdropping skills worked in the conversations but he was never spoken about.
“That’s really interesting. I’m sure that is because right now you are super hungry and those cakes were all you could think about so it was your stomach that led you here, when you were with Dai-chan it was probably because his stomach led you here, especially since Dai-chan whines when he’s super hungry, you’d want to get here as fast as possible. And since Yama-chan showed you this place it would make sense that you would make it with him,” Inoo said logically while trying really hard to not show the hurt in his eyes.
“You’re so right!” Yuto smiled into his coffee that was delivered without either of them noticing, ‘Why are you always right? You always make so much sense. You’re like Yabu in that way, always logical and always about other people.
Inoo could only smile into the praise as he watched his younger brother take a bite of the cake that was also in front of them. He had nothing to say, he couldn’t say it now. That would make Yuto a liar right? He just dug into the delicious cake and they ate in silence until they were done. Wordlessly, Yuto, who had finished first, got up and paid the bill. “You didn’t have to do that, I’m the one who asked you out remember? I should have paid.” Inoo smiled, “thank-you though.”
“It’s no problem, you’re overworked, it’s the least I could do,” Yuto smiled as he sat back down. His cake was far from gone, but Inoo still had a little left. “Are you enjoying it?”
“Yes, so much that I’m savouring it, every bite is so good,” Inoo answered with a smile, but it was only the half truth, the real truth was that the longer it took for them to eat the longer they were together.
Inoo was sad when he ate the last few bites of cake and Yuto immediately and wordlessly cleared the dishes to the counter, he knew that it was the waitress’ job but at that moment he just wanted to do it. Yuto smiled as he watched Inoo lean back in satisfaction. “Ready to go?” Yuto asked as he stuck his arm out for Inoo to grab it, it was just like the Victorian times.
Inoo nodded and grabbed the awaiting arm. Together they made for the door but not without hearing “Good Luck Nakajima-kun,” from their waitress who was smiling at the two.
“What was that about?” Inoo asked as they got a little farther down the road, and after they entered the park, they stopped by the fountain to enjoy the night view.
“They know me really well, it was probably for our career, you know how much luck we need now, well they always say that to me, every time.”
“Ah I see,” Inoo said casually. “Luck is important in this industry but you don’t need it. You’ll get by on talent alone. I assure you this.”
“Aww you’ll make me blush, stop.”
“I won’t, I won’t lie to you Yuto, your talent will get you through this agency, and I mean it to. I will always watch your growth in the industry and even thereafter when you decide to do other things. When you decide to go to university or something maybe not, either way I’ll always be here for you, you’re my friend and it’s been too many years together.”
“I feel the same way, no matter what happens even in your architecture. I’ll watch over your work, whenever happens or whatever happens, you are my sempai, my leader you know I’ll always be behind you. I like you too much to let you go,” Yuto said honestly and then covered his mouth.
Unfortunately for him, Inoo caught it, “you like me?” Yuto couldn’t do anything at that moment but nod. “I like you too. I just didn’t know how to tell you.”
Yuto found his voice, “Really?”
“Yeah, I like you Yuto. I really do.”
“I like you too. Can I do something then? I’ve seen Yama-chan and Takaki do it all the time,” Yuto said and again covered his mouth. “Uh, you didn’t hear that, they are a secret.” Inoo laughed but nodded at the same time. As Yuto leaned in he captured Inoo’s mouth with his own.
The kiss was short but it was soft as well. They both enjoyed it. “Goodnight Kei-chan, I have to get going,” Yuto said as a ring tone broke their bliss.
“Alright,” Inoo said as they both stood up from their spots. Inoo grabbed Yuto’s hand and then pulled him in for another kiss. “Do me a favour though and don’t tell anybody just yet.”
“I have to tell Yama-chan though, it’s an equal deal. You can tell one person, but just make them swear they won’t say a word.”
“Deal, I’ll see you tomorrow,” Inoo kissed Yuto one last time before they both went their separate ways.
“That can’t be where it ends Grandpa,” Rina asked again. “That is not drastic enough.”
“No there’s more, but if you haven’t noticed it is your bedtime, your mother is even at the door,” Inoo said simply. Both children looked and their mother was of course leaning against the door frame.
“C’mon you two, it’s late,” their mother said and the two of them got up without complaint.
“Finish the story tomorrow?” Rina asked as she stopped by the door.
“Of course,” Inoo said and the two kids left without a goodnight to Inoo.
“You’re getting it off your chest,” said the returned voice.
“I have too, if I don’t I’ll be hurting even more-so. I miss my wife but I miss you more. I have to set this story free and I need to tell somebody, I hoping that if I tell Yoru, he won’t make the same mistake as me.”
“You didn’t make a mistake Kei, love is never a mistake, I learned that up here.”
“I know, our love wasn’t a mistake, I fell too hard too fast and then I lost you without even getting to experience the whole dating scene with you.”
“I love you Nakajima Yuto, I always will.”
“And I will love you and watch over you until the end of your time when you join me.”
“I’m counting on it,” Inoo said as he moved over to his bed.
“Goodnight my Yuto.”
“Goodnight, I’ll watch over you until the end of time. I promise.”
