Chapter 2: Home from School.
Inoo sat on the floor looking through the box all day long. Memories flood to him like a flash flood. Memories he liked, and several that he didn’t came to him instantly. He hadn’t even realized the time when his two grandchildren rushed into his bedroom.
“Grandpa, can you tell us now?” Little Rina asked as she ran into the room. “You promised you’d tell us one when we got home.”
“I will, don’t worry, I’m just reminiscing at the moment.”
“What do you have there, grandpa?” Yoru asked as he looked at the box in Inoo’s lap.
“A box of memories, from when I was famous, I thought it could be useful to tell the story so you could put a face to a name,” he held up one picture and smiled, it was one of the first pictures that the entire group of JUMP had taken together. He showed his grandchildren and pointed to each of them naming them off of course starting with his self.
“Yoru looks like grandpa!” Rina shouted randomly.
“Yes you do Yoru; it is both a curse and a gift isn’t it?”
Yoru nodded softly and chewed on his bottom lip. Inoo finished pointing out the people until he came to the last one, him. The one they lost, the one Inoo loved and the one that he will never forget. “Grandpa, are you alright?” Yoru asked with concern.
“Yes I’m fine, don’t worry about me.”
“Okay then,” Rina said impatiently, “can you please tell us a story then?”
“Sure, I guess the only way to start is at the beginning. When I first started the agency, Yabu Kota was the first person I met, we were in the same audition group and we never thought that we’d ever be part of the same group, for one thing, we were very different. I liked being in the background where he loved the spotlight, of course the spotlight was a good thing to be in but I preferred the back, especially considering I kept messing up, at least at the beginning.”
He was about to continue when Rina interrupted instead, “we already know all of that! After you met Yabu-san, you met Yaotome-san, Arioka-san and Nakajima-san, followed by Takaki-san, Yamada-san, Chinen-san and Morimoto-san, then lastly Okamoto-san.” [AN/: I don't know if that is the exact order in which they joined, but I'm sure it's pretty close, someone please correct me if it is wrong.]
“You’ve told us that before, grandpa, please think of something new,” Yoru said while agreeing with his sister.
“Alright, how’s about I tell you the real reason as to why I left the agency. I’ve never told anyone this, not even your grandmother knew this, only one other person knew this and they are sworn to secrecy, they will not ever speak of it and I will never speak to them again.”
The two kids’ eyes grew wide with innocence and their smiles grew mischievous, they were about to learn a hushed secret and they would feel special in their grandfather’s eyes since he trusted them with this secret. The innocence and mischievous expressions of the two kids brought even more nostalgia to Inoo, the looks they gave him reminded him so much of the Johnny’s Juniors as well as Chinen when they wanted something that they couldn’t have and were secretly plotting to get it once they were unsupervised.
“Now what do you two know of why I quit Hey! Say! JUMP all those years ago?”
“Mom, told us that you had left to continue your schooling and that it was overwhelming you and that you needed to choose one or the other and you chose school,” Yoru answered.
“Mama also said that, that was when you met grandmother and wanted to marry her. Is that not true?”
“No it’s true, just partly true; it’s a half truth in a way. It isn’t the whole story basically.”
“You mean there’s more?” Rina asked with her eyes lighting up once again, she was a sucker for a good love story, and hearing about how her parents or even grandparents had met and fallen in love was her favourite past time.
“Yes there’s more. It may be something you won’t enjoy though Rina,” Inoo tired to deter his granddaughter from hearing this story; he didn’t want her corrupted just yet.
“I don’t care; I want to hear the story!” Rina yelled loudly.
“Rina, Yoru dinner time!” their mother yelled from the kitchen. Both kids whined but got up obediently and went to the kitchen to eat.
“Thank-you,” Inoo let out to no one.
“You really don’t want to tell it do you?” said a low mysterious voice.
“Not really, how can I relive those memories?” Inoo asked the voice.
“You have to, it’s the only way to let go.”
“But I can’t, I tried, you know I did, I tried hard and I even bore children but it didn’t work, I can’t get you out of my head!”
“You have to, I’ll always be watching over you, I promised you that, but it’s time for you to let me go, you can’t move on with your life if you are stuck in the past.”
“I don’t want to move on.” Inoo spoke to it. “Stupid voice, go away, leave me.”
“I won’t, not until you come to your senses, you need to understand Kei-chan, I’m not far away, I’ve been waiting for a long time, I miss you too! Can’t you see that? I love you, and I always have, I will forever watch over you, as you would do the same for me, do you not get that?”
“I understand. I just can’t let go, because that would admit that you are really gone and that it was my fault.”
“Your fault? How is it your fault?”
“I can’t explain,” Inoo brushed it off, “On second thought it’s better if you don’t know.”
“You need to let go then, if you refuse to speak then that is your choice” the voice spoke as it started to fade away “I will forever watch over you,” but by the time it said “you” the voice was gone.
“Yuto~” Inoo said in the now darkness of his bedroom, “I’ll never forget you.” Inoo moved out into the living room and sat down in his favourite chair. He had the box of memories with him and he started to piece them out in a sort of timeline, and the most memorable memories painfully struck him.
His daughter-in-law brought him a tray of food, knowing fully that he did not want to share in the company of others for the moment; he knew that this depression was getting worse and that he could no longer hide it from those he loved. He needed peace, but he also knew that it would not come without a price. And that price was the truth. The truth he could handle, at least in his mind he believed he could handle it, for one reason he was there when IT happened. For another reason, it was only in his mind and he was the only person who knew about it, therefore he could twist it to make sure he wasn’t hurt inside, and he could untwist it little by little remembering every single detail that a person could picture of that situation.
But as Yoru and Rina left the dining area in the kitchen and joined Inoo in the living, he knew that it was now. It was time to tell the story, the story of the lost member, the unspoken words of truth.
Author's Note: So there is Chapter 2, sorry it took so long for it to be posted but the holidays pretty much killed me with no free time what so ever, let's see, I finished my exams and so far I've only failed one :( that was a total accident and I don't know how it happened but it did. Secondly, my boss decided to give me full shifts at work because I was no longer in school and I had the time so that took away from my free time, then it was Christmas Eve and you have to do family things on Christmas Eve, soon became Christmas Day and I had to do more family type things, we started by opening presents, making breakfast, going to my grandparents and seeing family (that of course took all day) then we ate a family dinner and then did family things for the rest of the evening. That night I as just about to go to bed and fall asleep, it was about 2:30 in the morning when I heard a strange ring tone, it was my best friend saying she had went into labour and she wanted me at the hospital ASAP. I stayed there all night with her, and it was at 9:22 in the morning of Boxing Day that she delivered a 6.5 pound (or 2.94 kilogram) baby girl, her name is Natalie and she is the cutest thing.
On Boxing Day, when I was finally able to go home I crashed on my bed and was woken up about an hour before my mother's family was to come over. We had a party with Her side of the family and I watched my older and younger sister get drunk. I was in charge of making alcoholic drinks for people and I maybe sort of (Comments, Criticism and Confetti, and if you don't know what they are please see my previous chapters/stories.
