So the change at the MTC (Missionary Training Center) was going to occur anyway in September, but due to a break out of swine flu H1N1 influenza there is no longer a program/video at the MTC for families dropping off their sons and daughters. So, after a short family devotional and 40 minute drive to Provo, here's the last couple of minutes with my brother.
Dad : (driving down University Pkway) Um...did anyone remember to bring the map? I don't remember how to get there.
Me and Elder: roll eyes
Mom: (points to sign) We should make sure we take a picture by the MTC sign. Do think we should stop now?
Dad: (turns into MTC parking lot) Too late.
Nice Old Guy: So, I assume you have a missionary here in the car?
Dad: Yes.
Nice Old Guy: Does he have all of his luggage?
Mom: Yes
Nice Old Guy: You've heard about the influenza outbreak here. Is anyone sick in your car?
Me/Elder/Little Brother: (sneeze, sniff, cough, hack, repeat)
Mom: No. It's just allergies.
Nice Old Guy: Ok. Just follow the men directing traffic down to your senior missionary couple assistants.
Sister Senior Missionary: Hello. Welcome to the MTC. Sorry about the disorder. This is our first week. Oh, and we're not shaking hands this week.
Mom: It's okay.
Brother Senior Missionary: Name of missionary, check. Mission, check. Here's his new mailing address.
Sister Senior Missionary: (Points to Young Man) This is your son's "host missionary." He'll help him around for the next couple of hours.
Host Missionary: Hello, Elder and family. (sees me getting out of car) Do we have a sister missionary today too? (I turn, revealing profile). Um....I guess not.
We then took a couple of pictures, gave my brother a hug, and he was off. So, not having ever experienced the family program and tears and "Called to Serve" and more tears and long good-byes with an extra dose of tears--I think I like the new way of doing things.

In other news, tomorrow is the last day of school. Due to being pregnant, I didn't go to Lagoon with the other math teachers and 9th graders. But I've actually had a rather nice day here with the 8th graders and their softball game, water games, and the extra time/help cleaning out my classroom.
