Okay first of all let me just explain what this feature of my journal is: Every week (don't know what day but it should be somewhat weekly), I will select an album from the UK's current top 10 and review it, InsidePulse.com style. I think this will be good for me because A) I hardly venture into todays popular music and B) I only ever really review albums that I already like, so with this weekly thing I should be able to review piles of crap too. Anyway, first my first week I will be reviewing Jack Johnson's '"In Between Dreams".
Jack Johnson - In Between Dreams
Current Position: #6
Last Weeks Position: #6
Weeks in Chart: 23
The Scope:
Before now I have never gave this guy a listen mainly due to the fact that I've never even heard of him before now. I heard that this album has been getting a lot of praise and have seen numerous commercials advertising this very album and did find myself enjoying the breif samples played throughout the ad. So I'm entering this album with a clear scope and of no knowledge whatsoever of his music genre, style or past recordings.
Positives:
Very good songwriting, mellow and relaxing throughout, clever yet simple thought provoking lyrical style.
Negatives:
Can make you very drowzy if listened to late at night due to the soft melodies and slightly repetitive nature of the songs.
Reason to buy:
If you're into consistant mellow, relaxing acoustic music.
Rating: 9/10
