Summary: All it took was a cup of hot chocolate to make someone’s day a thousand times better.
Daiki spat out every cursing words he knew as he dashed through the heavy rain. Holding his canvas bag and jacket above of his head was certainly not enough to protect himself from getting drenched, thus his cothes and his hair were pretty damp by the time he arrived at the building where his next class would be held.
After a moment of catching his breath, the low temperature of the early winter air started getting on him, and his wet clothes and wet hair made it three times worse. He sneezed rather loudly, startling a few people in the hallway, before he walked away with his body shivering. Looking at his state right now-wrapping the wet jacket around his shoulder and holding on it tightly, hopelessly hoping for a better warmth when it actually would get him sick-it was quite a pitiful sight.
It was a very unexpected situation. He was one hundred percent sure that the weather was perfectly clear this morning, and when the previous class ended, the sky was cloudy yet it wasn’t the cloudy grey that told it would rain in no time.
There was a light drizzle when he stepped out of the building; it wasn’t a problem at first until the rain poured down heavily in a sudden it got him panic. The idea of finding a shelter and waiting for the rain to calm down didn’t have the chance to cross his mind. He just ran all the way to the next building, which the distance wasn’t really far, but it couldn’t be considered as close either.
How he wished he had taken his mother’s advice to bring an umbrella along with him, then he wouldn’t be attending the class with every single thing attached on him wet from head to toe.
He decided to head straight to the auditorium since he didn’t know any better place to spend the time left until the class begin. Stepping in to the vast room, he spotted a few heads had been there ahead of him, busy with their own world that they didn’t spare a glance to Daiki even though the poor boy’s stammering shattered the complete silence.
Daiki took a seat at his usual spot and immediately hugging himself. He knew it wouldn’t get rid of the chill, but as if there was a better solution than that at the moment. He could have called his friends and asked them to borrow one of their jackets or anything dry for him to wear, but unfortunately, his cell phone ran out of battery. He didn’t have a clue of where they were right now. He had to wait for them coming to the class for another couple of minutes.
Keeping his legs close to his chest, he buried his face behind his knees, forming a pathetic trembling ball. It was bloody freezing and each second passed ever so slowly.
All he wanted for now was to sleep it all away.
Knock.
A sound of soft knocking, coming from the table next to him.
Peeking from the corner of his eyes, he saw a tan-skinned hand holding a paper cup with white steam coming out of it. Definitely a hot drink.
He raised his head to see who the person standig close to him was just to find one of his classmates in this class. He barely knew him other than that he put a cold facial expression most of the time and he didn’t talk much. But his wavy brunette hair was enough to make him stood out between the crowd.
As their gazes met, the brunette quickly faced another direction. “For you,” he mumbled-close to a whisper that Daiki almost couldn’t hear his voice-and just with that, he left to his own seat at the corner of the room far from Daiki’s place before Daiki could say a word or two.
Daiki blinked in confusion, trying to register the meaning of the simple two words the brunette said to him. He still hadn’t believed that the brunette really gave it to him for free, and it was steaming hot as if he had gone all the way to the canteen just to bought it for him.
‘He didn’t really do that, did he? We are barely acquaintances, after all. Then why?’
With that question lingering in his mind, Daiki took the cup and carefully sipped the content. The taste was delightful. No wonder, it was his favorite hot chocolate! He licked the chocolate left on his lips and had another sips. The warmth sliding down through his throat and stored in his stomach.
‘It’s good.’ He was in a bliss.
Finished with his drink, he turned around to see if the brunette was looking at his direction. He wanted to wave his hand and mouthing him a “thank you”, but it seemed like the brunette had his face rested on the table, sleeping.
Leaning on to the chair’s back, feeling better than he was a few minutes ago, Daiki threw the brunette a big smile-although of course the latter wouldn’t see-and waved at the direction of the auditorium’s door when he spotted his friends entering the room.
‘Well, I still can thank him properly after this.’
