Rolo is good at fixing things.
When the Barong and his wife were suspected of being too deeply involved in the personal issues off the royal family, Rolo fixed it. It was easy enough. Two gunshots to her chest and his knife blade to the baron’s right carotid artery.
The blood on the forest floor fixed everything.
Rolo also fixed things when he killed the president of Sakura Daido Resource and Development’s Chinese Federation branch. He had been leaking classified information to the Chinese Eunuchs. He was breaking things, or so Rolo was told. So he fixed it. He fixed Guiseppe Kamat Mayart by slamming his head into the bathroom wall.
And the noisy reporter. And the mafia boss. And the cooked senator. All of them. He fixed them because they were broken.
Because that’s what people do with tools: use them to fix things.
But Rolo is not a tool. Not anymore. When Shirley confronted him, found him breathless as he searched for his brother, he decided he’d fix things for himself. And so he did. But instead of fixing, he broke her. And his brother was so proud.
From then on, he stopped fixing and started breaking. Because to fix the broken relationship between him and Lelouch, that’s what he had to do. He broke the cult. He broke his fellow siblings. He even broke V.V. (with his brother’s help). He would’ve broken Nunnally too, given the chance.
He did so much to fix things with Lelouch, he let himself break. But by letting himself fall apart, he fixed everything. His brother did care, and was really his brother. And that’s why he said so when Rolo finally broke to a point that he could no longer be himself.
Maybe he wasn’t so good at fixing things, after all.
