So Lady In the Water sucked pretty much. And all of you know, coming from me that's like Condelleza telling Bush he's made a bad fucking move. The summer of sucky/mediocre movies continues. at least i know Clerks 2 is gonna save me

hmm, now that ive seen both i am obligied for rebuttle. ;p
my problem with LIW lies in two things; 1) All the fucking red herrings. If youre trying to build an mythology then dont include seven red herrings in place of *the big twist*. I know he wasnt going for a twist but it still came off as a poor substitute. Seriously, the whole meat of this movie is explaining these RULES of the narf woman's world. That's not good story telling. The cardinal rule of cinema is SHOW dont TELL. 2) The above might've been slighted if it wasnt for M. NIGHT himself. I understand his hitchcock thing but giving himself a role as "the writer who's gonna change the world" just SCREAMS arrogance. i mean seriously, how much ego stroking do you need to put yourself in there saying lines like "Im no one special" then being told "Yes you are. you are very special. blah blah blah." I mean, you have all of these great character actors romping around the set and you couldnt give that role to of them?? Also, the killing of the critic (while funny to a point) did feel really petty. As if compensating for the bad reviews he got for village (which i loved). I dunno, i guess im being harsh but thats becase i love his work. Unbreakable is/will always be one of my favorite movies of all time and his directing technique is unquestionable. But seriously, he needss to step off the high chair. He compares himself to BOb Dylan and Michael JOrdan for christ sake.
Okay gotta breathe. lol.
As for Clerks 2; I, hands down, LOVED it. every inch. as per the dialogue, sure that can carry you so far but you need a story to wrap it around. All of the previous five mentioned had plot (what little there was). This one did too and it resonated with me alot. But fuck ill go into more detail in a later post. this shit is too long for a comment.
