Susp's Review: DOTM MECHTECH ROADBUSTER

May 29, 2011 17:30

The only thing Roadbuster loves more than coming up with a new weapon is using it on Decepticons!

Vehicle Mode: Roadbuster is a NASCAR Sprint Cup Chevy Impala stock car. He measures about 13 cm(5.1”) long and is white and dark green with translucent pale blue windows, metallic silver headlights, red taillights, a metallic dark window net, the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series logo in black, and the number 88 in scarlet, white, and black on his sides and roof. We can also see that Roadbuster’s main sponsors are AMP Energy and the U.S. National Guard. Oh, and if it wasn’t already clear that this is supposed to be Dale Earnhardt, Jr.’s car, his signature is featured in white on the doors.

Unlike his buddy Topspin, Roadbuster is very smooth and streamlined. He holds together like a rock and rolls nicely on most surfaces. His dark green and metallic silver cannon pegs into his roof. Pressing the grey tab causes the metallic silver parts to swing forward and form a jagged chainsaw! Oh, if only it could lock in place!

Transformation: Flip up the tail section of the car, swing out the arms from the sides, and flip back the green panels. Flip out the legs and waist, then carefully separate the hood and swing up the robot torso. Rotate the torso 180 degrees and fold up the rest of the hood. Peg the body together, separate the legs, and fold down the feet. Rotate the head and fold back the small white and translucent blue pieces on the arms. Finally, unfold the launchers on Roadbuster’s back.

Robot Mode: Roadbuster stands about 13 cm tall at the head, but his launchers add a couple more centimetres. His main colours are now dark green, grey, and white with a metallic silver Autobot symbol on his right upper arm and metallic blue-grey warheads. His head is green with a metallic silver face and translucent blue lightpiping. It’s been sculpted to give the impression of sunglasses, a baseball cap, and a mullet haircut. Roadbuster is probably not the sort to attend musicals.

Roadbuster’s head, shoulders, and hips are ball-jointed, his elbows, knees, and ankles are hinged, and his upper arms and thighs rotate. Average poseability nowadays, and it’s restricted somewhat by all the vehicle kibble on his arms and back. His launchers, which are hinged in two places, are each packing 20 warheads (although that still pales in comparison to his Universe namesake!). His MechTech weapon pegs into either forearm. In addition, you can attach C-joint weapons to the rods on his forearms and the supports for his launchers.

Overall, Susp Sez: With good vehicle and robot modes and a neat weapon, Roadbuster isn’t what I’d call thrilling, but he’s a solid toy that you won’t regret purchasing. 4/5
