The infamous Starscream is back once again to rain havoc and destruction down from the skies!
Vehicle Mode: This Deluxe-sized F-22 Raptor measures about 16.5 cm(6.5”) long with a 12 cm(4.7”) wingspan. Main colours are silver, brown, and dark grey with a translucent yellow canopy and of course, lots of black Cybertronian markings plus a Decepticon symbol.
This is one of the better renditions of the F-22 we’ve seen. It looks accurate, it holds together nice and solid, and it doesn’t have a ton of undercarriage garbage (although there is a little). Like most of his previous toys, Starscream features flip-out landing gear and a rubberised nosecone. His new armament consists of a couple of brown and grey null ray cannons of varying size that peg into the underside of his wings. The cannons are also equipped with metallic silver swords, making Starscream very similar to his Energon counterpart. Pushing the scope on the larger weapon causes it to unfold and thrust its blade like the front claw of a mantis shrimp.
Transformation: Unpeg and pull Starscream’s wings straight up. Unfold his arms from beneath the jet and swing them out to the sides. Raise the tabs under the wings, then rotate the wings forward. Fold down the stabiliser fins, then fold the tail section forward and peg it into the wings. Unfold the legs, flip open the panels on the waist and over the head, then swing the cockpit down until it snaps into place. Close up the waist panel and you’re done.
Robot Mode: Starscream stands 13.5 cm(5.3”) tall, downright puny compared to his Leader class toy, but respectable for a Deluxe. He retains the same familiar V-shaped body, long, skeletal arms, and chicken legs. His colour scheme is unchanged, although more brown and dark grey bits are now visible. His head is silver and brown with red eyes and black, metallic blue, and metallic silver accents.
Starscream’s head rotates, his shoulders have ball and hinge joints, his upper arms, wrists, knees, and toes are hinged, his elbows and hips are ball-jointed, and his second knees have universal joints. His body holds together firmly and his heel spurs, which are cleverly formed from his landing gear, do a fine job of keeping him upright. His weapons peg into his forearms, or they can be pegged together to form an enormous, double-bladed warstaff. At nearly 22 cm(9”) long, one can easily imagine the devastation Starscream can create with it. It’s also light enough that it doesn’t unbalance him, even in active poses.
Overall, Susp Sez: This is now my favourite Movie Starscream toy. It looks great in both modes, transforms without great difficulty, has good poseability and stability, and a very cool weapon. Well worth picking up. 5/5
