Susp's Review: GENERATIONS WARPATH

May 04, 2011 00:12

Poor Warpath. Not only is his newest toy nearly as rare as a blue lobster, someone at Hasbro botched his stats by giving him a Strength of 6. Come on! Aside from the fact that it was a 9 in his original G1 tech spec, the cartoon depicted him punching through Dead End’s chassis and shattering Ramjet’s nosecone.

Vehicle Mode: Warpath is a Cybertronian tank measuring 11.5 cm(4.5”) long. His main colour is dark red with assorted light and dark grey parts, and metallic silver treads. Autobot symbols and ’ZOW-333’ and ’K4-90W’ are tampographed in black on his sides, a clever reference to his unique way of speaking.

Warpath rolls along on four tiny wheels mounted in his treads. His turret rotates 360 degrees in either direction and his main gun elevates about 20 degrees. Viewed from the front, it’s slightly lopsided, which I’m sure causes the proud Autobot no end of anguish. His secondary armament consists of a four-barrelled grenade launcher and a missile launcher that fires its red projectile a distance of over a metre. The rear of the missile sticks way out of the launcher and looks bad, but such is life. Warpath also has four bars for attaching C-joint weapons.

Transformation: Fold in the launchers, open the turret hatch and slide in the main gun, causing the head to rise up. Flip out the lower torso, separate the legs, unfold the feet, snap them into the shins, and rotate the thighs. Open the panels on the rear treads, unfold the arms, flip out the fists, and close the panels up again. Fold up the panels in front of the turret, then swing down Warpath’s upper body and connect it to his waist.

Robot Mode: With bulging forearms and shins, treads on his blocky feet, and, of course, the gun sticking out of his chest, Warpath has never looked better. He stands about 14 cm(5.5”) tall and is dark red, dark grey, and light grey with black, metallic gold, and metallic silver accents. His head is red, black, and grey with black eyes and metallic silver vents on his cheeks.

Warpath’s head, shoulders, and thighs rotate, his upper arms, knees, and ankles are hinged, his elbows have universal joints, and his hips are ball-jointed. He stands fine thanks to his large feet and holds together perfectly.

Overall, Susp Sez: Botched stats aside, Warpath is flat out awesome. Great tank mode, fairly easy transformation, fantastic-looking robot mode, and good poseability. Get this sucker if you’re lucky enough to get the opportunity. 5/5
