The small, quaint house was quiet. Absolutely silent. The front and back doors were open, save for the front door screen, as were the windows. It was a peaceful fall afternoon in the newly found Jonas household and the two occupants were busying themselves that day with the usual activities: Cleaning, cooking, sleeping, reading, and the occasional bout of love making.
The two brothers lived a steady life in their Colorado home. They had chosen the middle-of-nowhere town because nobody really knew who they were. Yeah, sometimes a little girl would come up and shyly ask them for a picture or an autograph but it wasn't anything to worry about.
They had found it easy to befriend the townsfolk; most of them middle-aged couples with children that lived in the next town over or something. The people were not stuck up or rude, and accepted the celebrities willingly. But that was because the brothers did not flaunt their fame in way shape or form.
They would walk together into town every weekend to grocery shop and run various errands. And when their clothes started to wear down, they would take the forty-five minute drive to Denver to go shop, because while they were humble, they didn't exactly want to wear overalls and Doc Martins everyday.
Nevertheless, the brothers tried to avoid going into Denver because they had moved to their current abode for a certain: To escape the fame. They had grown tired of the constant traveling and constant invasion of their privacy. Luckily, by the time Joe and Nick had decided to move, their careers had grown to a point where they were low-key celebrities. Meaning that they were hardly ever in the tabloids, they were in every other movie and weren't performing every night.
They needed to get away from the limelight for a while. But, sadly enough, such needs had heeded to some conflict with their family. Their parents were upset and did not want them to leave, but Kevin had been understanding and supportive and said that, "Mom and dad are just being greedy. Don't worry, they'll come around," with a reassuring smile and a gentle squeeze of the shoulder.
After Kevin and Danielle wed, they moved in together and not long after- two years to be exact- had their first child. A baby girl named Sarah. When this happened, Joe and Nick slowly but surely realized that maybe they should think about settling down, with each other, but only in secret of course.
So, now they are here in Colorado living a happy, steady life in their cozy one-story house in a town full of warm, welcome, happy people. Nick and Joe didn't want to lie to the people and say they weren't related or something, so they had told them the truth. Well, almost the truth; they had said that they were brothers who were just really close and needed to get away from the fame, so who's better to do that with than with your best friend/brother?
They kept the fact that they were gay, and incestuous, to themselves.

"Joe, honey, I want a kid," Nick said from his spot in front of the stove where he was making dinner.
Joe, who was out in the living room lifted his head up to look through the archway at his brother, "Okay, just grow some ovaries and a uterus and we're good to go."
Nick sent him a flat look for a moment before he went back to the task at hand, "Let's adopt. I was talking to Mary today and I guess an orphanage not far from here is having an open house on Saturday."
"Really? Did you want to go?"
"If you don't mind," Nick replied as he turned off the stove and got two plates ready for dinner. Forking out some spaghetti and sauce from the sauce pan and bringing them out to the dining room, "Come eat."
Joe got up from his spot on the couch, leaving the TV on for background noise and went over to their little table and sat down across from Nick, took a hold of his hands and started to say grace.
"Dear God, we thank you for all that you have given us. Give us wisdom and grace in all that we do and say, and why not throw a kid in the equation for fun. Amen."
Nick raised an eyebrow at Joe after he was done praying and laughed slightly, "You would do that."

"Hello, and welcome to Canon City Orphanage!" A round but happy looking woman greeted as Joe and Nick walked in, "Are you two looking to adopt today?"
"If we can, yeah," Nick said from his spot next to Joe.
The woman smiled, "Wonderful. Well my name is Celia and I'll be helping you today. What age did you have in mind?"
Joe and Nick exchanged looks before Joe spoke up, "Somewhere between one and three, is that's okay?"
"Of course! Follow me, I'll take you to the nursery and playroom." The brothers followed Celia closely, looking around and seeing all the children running about, being greeted by various couples. When Celia opened the door to one of the nurseries, Nick's heart melted. Volunteer workers and regular employees had some babies out and were holding them and playing with them.
A few other couples were spending some time with some of the babies and Nick sincerely wanted to pick up the nearest baby. Celia turned around to face the brothers, "All of the babies in here are between 6 months and a year and half. We have another room with the babies that go up to two years, and then we have rooms with the toddlers. I'll stay in here and if you want to go see the other children, you just let me know, okay?"
The pair nodded as she waddled off to go hold one of the babies. Nick instantly went to the nearest crib and he peered over the edge, seeing a sleeping baby and he did not want to wake her up so he went to the next one. The whole time, him and Joe were conversing quietly about the pros and cons of adopting an infant.
Because while it would be wonderful to be able to raise a baby so young, they didn't exactly want to deal with the possible constant crying. And they both thought it sounded awful, but they couldn't find any they truly loved, so they went to the two year olds.
"Good God they're adorable," Nick breathed out as he laid his eyes on the dozen or so two year old crawling around and babbling nonsensically. Nick looked down when he felt something patting his leg and he looked down to see a chubby little girl grabbing at his pant leg.
Nick grinned and reached down to pick the girl up, she was absolutely beautiful. She had light green eyes and ringlets of blonde hair. The whole time Joe and Nick spent with her, she never stopped smiling, There was a "Hello, my name is..." sticker stuck on her in which someone had written the name Abigail on it, Abby in quotes beneath that.
Joe asked to hold her and Nick handed her over, "Hello, Abby," Joe said softly in which the girl squealed and lifted a chubby little hand out, Nick stuck his finger out and she grasped onto it, smushing it against her face.
Nick looked at Joe, a look of pure love and adoration on his face, "Joe, she's perfect."
"I know, it almost feels as if she's already ours. I never wanna let her go," Joe replied, looking back down at the toddle who was gnawing away happily with her few little teeth at Nick's finger, drool dripping down her chin. But that was the drool of the most amazing baby girl in the whole wide world.
That day, Joe and Nick signed the paper to adopt Abby. Her given name was Abigail Warren, but now she was Abigail Jonas.
---
Exactly two weeks later, after Joe and Nick had gotten the spare room ready for their newly found daughter. Joe said he would stay home and finish cleaning up the house and getting everything ready while Nick went to go pick Abby up.
The hour that Nick was gone was probably the longest hour of his life. The house was absolutely spotless, not a single dirty dish or stray sock to be found. Joe was meandering around in their backyard, watching the stray cat that had claimed said backyard as its home wander about. Sniffing, then eating their grass and jumping about after flies and such.
When Joe heard their car pull up, a sudden jolt of excitement stabbed his stomach and he turned to go through the house to the front yard to see Nick getting their daughter-- Their daughter, he thought, he would have to get used to that-- out of the backseat of the car.
Her eyes were wide, taking in the new surroundings, Nick walked up to Joe, asking him to get the bag out of the back. Joe went and got it and then, after closing the door, followed Nick into the house where he had placed Abby on the floor and she was currently crawling around, getting a good view of her new home.
Joe's heart nearly burst at the sight of his new family.
---
"Happy Birthday, Abby," Nick said as he kissed his daughter on the forehead.
She smiled up at her dad, showing off her braces, along with her gorgeous smile, "Thank you, dad. Both of you," she said sincerely.
"We're so proud of you sweetheart," Joe said from his spot next to his daughter, who was opening one of the two gifts, the already opened card laying off to the side.
She smiled at him, gasping excitedly when she saw her first gift: A new phone. She nearly ripped the box apart in order to the get to the phone and when she did, she held it close to her chest, "Oh my God! You guys, thank you so much!" She exclaimed, grinning ear to ear before hugging both of her fathers tight and thanking them profusely.
The rest of the night went exceptionally well. Abby had her best friend Alyssa come over and stay the night while Nick and Joe laid in their bed, reminiscing about their daughters childhood.
"I can't believe she's sixteen already. It feels like just yesterday we brought her home for the first time," Joe said, holding Nick's hands in his own.
"I know. We're getting old, Joe."
Joe chuckled and placed a kiss to the back of Nick's hand, "I know. But we've lived an amazing life and we still have a long ways to go before we really start to get old. I just turned forty-- Oh God, we are getting old!"
Nick laughed and curled up against Joe's chest, pressing a kiss to the bottom of Joe's jaw, "Told you, let's sleep now, okay?"
And that's just what they did.
