60th birthday

Feb 22, 2007 19:36

little girl,
you look like your father
maybe the build perhaps
the stubbornness
the flaring temper that quickly subsides
you never feel appreciated
you are never told that you are loved

he died and they said
you look like your father, and
each one would pour over my features
taking an elbow, an eyebrow, a nose
making it his
he used to do that
although now it was more of them
missing him, and
tearing me apart to find what they had lost

sometimes ( rarely)
my parents would hug me as I
ewwed and yucked and wiggled away
we have no pictures of this
other then that we didn't touch
books say you need 8 human touches a day
and I wondered why he was so sad

in another life maybe
when we are both cats
we'll laugh again
and you will no longer cry at commercials without knowing why
and I will hug you again
and someone will explain this away

and you can have my smile, my curly hair
you look like your father they'll say, and ill laugh
spinning over and over in another realm
many years from now

happy birthday.
you are somewhere watching us.
I am sure of this.
