Life Changing Night

Went to the Weakerthans show tonight in Pittsburgh with Jim and Tammy.  We ate dinner at Gringo's in Meadville (Which was effing delicious. Four Stars!)

Then we went to the show at the Rex Theater on the SouthSide.  The show was transcendental, as their shows tend to be, and I was moved beyond myself, as I always am with them.

Got two rare vinyl records of theirs.  To die for and very special in and of itself.

Got 2 great video clips and several pics.

Greg, the member who always had really long hair both times I saw him got a hair cut.  At a quiet moment, the audience was yelling out songs they wanted to hear and I yelled out "I love your new haircut!!"  Everyone heard me, laughed, and John K said "thank you."  I wasn't talking to him, but the incident was adorable so whatever.  I was just amazed that he smiled and laughed because of me.  DIED.

THEN.  After the show we were walking the few blocks back to the car and James saw their bus in the alley outside the place.  Greg and Jason were standing outside the bus.  I knew then that this was my moment. I walked over to them and talked to them both for nearly 10 min.  Not only is this my equivalent of meeting fucking Elvis, but they actually seemed to like me and laughed a lot.  I was being silly.  I think the best quote I managed to tell them was something along the lines of "I'm not saying that I WOULDN'T get your names tattooed on my boob if you signed them.  I'm not saying that I WOULDN'T."  Silly stuff.  But yeah.

But yeah, they shook our hands, hugged me, and Greg said that he would be happy coming to my Poet Stock festival and headlining.  HOLY JESUS.  If they come to the Pepsi Amplitheater and play at our Poetry Festival I think I will shit my dress and DIE.

I am in a complete state of shock and may not sleep for days.  The Weakerthans are my soul-band.  Some people have Elvis, or the Beatles.  Or whomever, Nirvana, whatever.  For me it has been the Weakerthans.  Since I first heard the strains of their band.  They are probably at least %25 of the brainpower in my head on any given day.

Small experience.  Large consequences.  Someone was looking out for me up there.  I don't care if it is fucking Captain Kangaroo with a halo, THANK YOU.
