I went for a hike with my students today. So we walked to the train station and most of them had never been in a train before. It was a huge adventure for a 9 minute train ride. We got to our destination: a beautiful big lake with lots of trees and plants and animals and insects to discover. Everything went really well until this big swan decided to just stand on the hiking trail. We tried everything but it couldn't be bothered to move and started hissing. We could even see the teeth. Some kids already began crying because they realised that we had to go that way and couldn't just go back. So I was standing there holding a big umbrella, ready to fight the "wild beast", while one after one the kids quietly walked to the other side. I probably looked really ridiculous but my heart was beating fast because I couldn't predict how the swan would react to the children moving. Well they all had something to talk about at home and we learned a few new things about swans.
