After waiting entirely too long I called the unemployment people last week to check in, and they finally approved my claim this week. I feel somewhat better about my situation now. Though really, anything other than "crushing, all-consuming despair" is an improvement.
On a related note, I did some looking around for alternative work while I'm job searching. Something part-time, not in food service, and preferably not under some corporate behemoth. Unfortunately, I've found that being a test knitter doesn't usually pay. I'll probably ask at my favorite comic and game stores next time I'm around.
