I was always, even before I could read on my own, read to, by my mom, by my grandparents, by random aunts. My mom read me this muppet babies book one time, and I told her a story after about Miss Piggy and her pet flower Daisy. She loved it so much, she wrote it down on the back part of the book.

It helped that I always read at a higher level than what I should have for my age. I hit the 12th grade reading level around 5th or 6th grade... Words just always came easy for me, and in books, I could retreat and be whoever I wanted.

I think what really clenched it for me, though, was 5th grade. After we read A Wrinkle in Time, we were told to write a story about what we would do with a Tessaractor (spelling is probably off). I wrote a story, turned it in, and next thing I knew, the teacher wanted a conference with my mom. The story had made her cry, because she knew it was deeply personal.

It was at that point that I realized, not only could the worlds of others in books touch me, but my words put in the right way could touch others... Could change them.

I couldn't resist... And I've been writing ever since. Someday, with any luck, my name will join those spines that I trail my fingers along every chance I get...

And it needs to hurry up! We got our poster and mug and tshirts in today, and I can't wait!!!
