I just want a vanilla steamer for my kid, ok?
So for at least fifteen years or so when I go to Starbucks I've been ordering a vanilla steamer for the youngest kid I have with me... It's steamed milk with vanilla syrup. Optionally topped with whip.
Yesterday while #4 is getting her haircut I run next door for an iced latte for me and a steamer for her.
Me: "Yeah I'll have a grande iced soy vanilla, and a tall vanilla steamer please"
Starbucks Chick: "ok, so a grande iced soy vanilla latte and a tall vanilla creme?"
me: "uh, vanilla steamer"
her: "oh we don't call them that here, it's Starbucks, we call them vanilla cremes"
me: (wondering why she thinks I am unaware I'm in a Starbucks) "really?"
her: "yes, we have to use the proper names for our drinks"
me: "right, but... ok, I've ordered like a thousand vanilla steamers at Starbucks for like the last fifteen years, and no one has ever told me it's a vanilla creme, I always ask for a vanilla steamer"
her: "well it's a vanilla creme here"
*scratches head*

AND. My #2 graduates from high school tonight. Pass the kleenex. *sniff*
