I am having the best Friday ever, and here’s why: tonight marks the opening ceremonies of LA Pride in West Hollywood, where I live. I realized that traffic would be SO miserable - even for LA - that I would probably never, ever make it home from work. So I left at lunch and am working the rest of the day from home.
I cannot recommend this highly enough. Every day at around 3, I start stressing about how long my drive home is going to take (usually about an hour to go eight miles. No, seriously.) By the time 6 pm rolls around, I’m miserable because it’s like, awesome, I won’t even be home for at least another hour. Then I spend the whole drive wondering what the toxic fumes from the cars are doing to my brain and trying not to rear-end anyone and watching for pedestrians. It is not a fun drive. There is no scenery. I never go more than 25 miles an hour. It's stop-and-start, bumper-to-bumper the whole way.
But seeing as traffic is significantly lighter at 1 than it is at 6, my drive home today took a mere 40 minutes. And now, instead of spending my afternoon dreading the soul-crushing commute home, I *am* home. This is fantastic. Now I want to have a baby just so I can work from home all the time. Can I convince my bosses that Leela needs round-the-clock care?
