Part 3:

The following morning, when he woke up, Changmin had already gone. Sunday morning and he has to work again. He stared at the ceiling remembering what had happened the night before and felt his cheeks burning. Everything went so fast that he thought it was just a dream… a very vivid dream. Rolling on the bed he felt happiness overwhelmingly filled his soul. He stretched his arms lazily and got up from the bed that was when he realized that his clothes, to be more precise, Changmin’s clothes were nowhere to be found. Though it was still summer, he could feel the cold air caressed around his bare skin making him shivered. The boy hurriedly wrapped the blanket around his body and ran into the bathroom.

He smiled when seeing the new suits folded neatly on the basin. You are such a good boy. And it seemed like he wasn’t surprised enough until he saw the note Changmin left on the large mirror by shaving cream.

Hey, did you sleep well last night? If not then I'm sorry. But I really had a great time...
Don't forget to eat something before you get home.
05-496-277, call me anytime.

Junsu ah, don’t cry anymore, I want you to be happy… I really do.

May your days be touched by the sunshine and your world be filled with love, with MY love…

Junsu couldn’t remember how long he had stood there and how many time he had read those lines. The fact was he felt like crying again. He had hopelessly craved for Changmin’s love for so long that he hardly believed his dream finally came true. Junsu added a little bit more cream on the mirror, so many things he wanted to tell Changmin but he ended up writing Thanks for everything… His feeling couldn’t be written in words; moreover, he wasn’t good at expressing them. Basically, he preferred… actions to words.

Eyeing around the place one last time like he wanted to keep in mind every corner of it, Junsu rushed out of the house only to find that he had no idea where he was. The night before, he was too busy staring at Changmin’s back that he barely noticed the way. After about half an hour asking passers, he finally found his way home.

“Mom” he called as soon as he stepped into his house.

His mom didn’t answer. He searched every single room in the house and went to the conclusion that she wasn’t at home. Weird, she doesn’t have work today. Where did she go? To the supermarket?

Entering his room, the first thing Junsu did was to find the cell phone since he wanted to inform Changmin of his arriving home safely. What the…? 17 missed calls!!!  They were all from his mom hence Junsu felt worried. He constantly called his mom back but this time she didn’t pick up. He paced up and down the corridor, holding the phone firmly with the hope that his mom would call him anytime … soon.

20 minutes passed by, Junsu lost all of his patience that was when his phone vibrated which made him jumping.

“Mom?” said Junsu as soon as he pressed the ‘answer’ button.

“Junsu ah…” she was sobbing.

“What happened? Where are you?” he asked worriedly.

“Come… to the hospital… before it’s too… late”, her quavering voice was interrupted by the hiccups.

“Mom, calm down, what are you talking about? What hospital?” but in fact, he couldn’t calm down himself.

“Your father got into an accident last night and he was still in the surgery. Junsu ah, what is mommy going to do???” she continued crying.

He finished the call, dropped himself on the floor. Was it because I didn’t let him in? He started to blame himself and immersed into the guilty feelings then suddenly he remembered how panic his mom was.

Taking the wallet, he stormed to the hospital and saw his mom sitting on the chair outside the surgery room. Her faced was buried into her hands. Silently, he took a seat next to her and pulled her into an embracement.

“How could the surgery taking such a long time uh?” she whined, “Maybe the surgery didn’t go well” she added, hands gripping the hem of his shirt.

“It should go smoothly… should be like that… don’t worry mom…don’t worry” he comforted his mom but it was more like for himself.

About an hour later, his father was moved to the emergency room. The surgery was successful, well sort of, but he wasn’t awake yet. He was badly injured on his head and had some broken bones. His mom said the car that hit him had run away and the police was still investigating the owner of it. Not that he cared about that part; all Junsu doing now was staring at his father who was lying unconsciously on the bed. His face could barely be seen for it was all bandaged up not to mention the oxygen mask.

Junsu heard his heart beat louder than the ticktack sounds from electrocardiogram machine. He was so scared that his father could never recover since even the doctor wasn’t sure whether or not he would turn out better.  NO, you can’t just die like that; I still haven’t forgiven you yet. You said you want to compensate for us then wake up!!! Talk to me…

“Mom, you were here since last night, weren’t you?” he asked, putting his hands on her shoulders and lightly massaged.

“uhmm” she weakly responded as she held his father’s hand tight.

“You should go home and take a nap, I can handle everything here.” He offered. The truth was, he felt his heart trembling and he wanted to cry. Junsu never cried in front of his mom since he was ten. He always made sure that he was the one that could protect her so he had to be tough.

“No, I’m okay, I want to be with him…at least even when he is … gone…I will be by his side” she refused.

“Mom, stop taking non-sense, listen to me, he will be fine and you are exhausted already” he pointed out as he tried to convince his mom “you can swap with me tonight or later when you have enough rest”.

“Fine…” she gave out; switching her eyes to settle them on her son “thanks hunnie…”

“For what?”

“For coming here and taking care of him…” she explained before leaving the room.

`

It was really awkward for him to be alone in the room with his father. Slowly he reached the bed and settled on the chair where his mom had sat before. Hesitantly he touched his father’s hand. So cold. He warmed it up by both of his palms.

“You are so irresponsible”

“Looks what you have done to my life”

“Why do you have to make me became so pity”

“I hate you”

“I will make you pay for what you did to me and mom”

“I want you to suffer me for the rest of your life so you can’t just run away from me like that”

“I am not going to let you go like that …”

“You heard me? … Answer me!!! ”

Hot tears felt down from the corners of his eyes; so hard to breath.

“Ap…appa-chi”

“Please wake up, uh?”

“I’m sorry… I didn’t let you in… It’s all my fault… please don’t go…”

Silent.

His father was still lying there. No sign of living except for his tummy moving up and down. Junsu cried out loud, laying his head on the mattress…

`

Changmin walked out of the shop and he didn’t see Junsu at familiar place. He couldn’t help but feeling a bit disappointed. It was only less than a day that he didn’t see the boy but he missed him so much. He knew this was so abnormal… how could he have those feelings towards a guy. He had tried too hard to forget him, forget the familiar shadow at the bus stop and forget the burning desire to feel his tender kiss again, but in vain. He couldn’t get him out of his head. His feelings for that boy were too obvious to resist. And the moment he felt Junsu in his arms, he knew that was his destiny. There was no way he could flee…. So he would go as far as he could.  Inhaling sharply, Changmin took out his phone and pressed number 1. This is the way that I chose… no matter what happen, I will never regret.

“Changmin?”

“Do you have time? I have something to tell you”

“Now? You miss me right?”

“Let’s meet. I’ll come to your place in 10 minutes”

`

Junsu didn’t know whether he was too tired from crying or he wanted everything turned out to be just a nightmare, he ended up sleeping and only woke up when his mom came.

“Junsu ah, I cooked you some soup at home” his mom informed “I’ll stay here with him tonight, you should go home to have a rest plus you have school tomorrow member?” his mom softly said as she caressed his hair.

He nodded, tiredly walked out off the hospital after kissing his mom goodbye. He didn’t want to go home for he felt so lonely. Instead, he walked around aimlessly for hours and then he realized that he was standing in front of a church.

Sitting by the statue of Jesus Christ on the wall, silently he prayed. Please forgive every wrong thing that I have done and please don’t take him away. I’ll forgive everything… I’ll be good to him if you ever let him awake… This was the first time he did this. He always believed in Gods but he had never prayed anything before…

Over and over again, he prayed… all night long.

`

“Changmin, what is that you want to tell me?”

“I think… we should stop seeing each other”

“What?”

“I want to break up”

“Changmin, this is not funny, stop joking!”

“I wasn’t…”

“But why… Why all of sudden? … Did I do something wrong?”

“No, it was all because of me. You are really good… It’s just me… my fault … I” he couldn’t find the right words to explain.

“Stop beating about the bush!”

“I guess it’s not fair for you to be with me anymore since…” My heart has changed “I’m so sorry Jess… can we just break up?” the more you know, the more pains you will have to endure “Please believe me, I am doing this for your own good”.

He could just pretend nothing had happened between him and Junsu and hanging out with her for a little bit longer. It was not like she would ever figure that out. But it was Changmin, he was the one that would never do something like that. He was betrayed before so he hated deceiving. They had been together for almost 2 years. They came to each other since they perfectly fitted, at least in other people’s eyes. She loved his looks, his smartness and his popularity. He was lonely… and she was the principle’s daughter, beautiful, and rich so why not choose her. Love? Perhaps yes perhaps no. It was more like a habit. But the best thing that she gave him was freedom. She wouldn’t mind whatever he did as long as they were still together. But this time…it was something different.

“My own good?” she burst out laughing “So ridiculous”

Seeing her crying made he felt so guilty but he knew all along that he could hurt her more if they were still together for his eyes couldn’t see her and his heart couldn’t feel her pains anymore. All he could see now was his pains and all he cared about now was Junsu and Junsu only.

“ I don’t deserve your love… you can hit me or curse me if it makes you feel any better…” he closed his eyes, waiting for his girlfriend.

“Look at me…” she commanded. “Shim Changmin, look at me” this time she actually shouted, too loud that made passers throwing them curious stares, “You have another girl?”

Hesitantly, he nodded “… another… person”.  Not a girl though.

“You bastard!!! I won’t let you go that easy” she scolded before running into her house, slamming the door on his face.

“Sorry…” he mumbled.

Finally, he ended it. He made his move and it was too late to turn back. Heaving a sigh, he walked back home Junsu ah, now I only have you left…

`

A week had passed by yet there was no news from Junsu. Changmin wondered if anything wrong happened to him. Just so he realized that he knew nothing about the boy… not even where he lived or studied and it made him feel so bad. He wanted to contact him badly.

He took a bus home after work as usual then suddenly received a message from a strange number.

Changmin ah…

Tell me I’m not dreaming. Changmin swiftly replied.

Junsu? Where are you?

A minute later…

At your place

As soon as the bus stopped, Changmin ran for his life to his house. He didn’t know why he ran like that but he just couldn’t wait to see him again. He felt so nervous, happy, worried… In short, it was a mixed feeling.

Junsu was in his uniform standing at the door, hands shoved into his pockets. He looked tired.

“Hey”

“Hey”

“How long did you stand here?”

“I don’t know… since school finished I guess…”

“You could have just told me where you were and I would come to you”

“It makes no difference. Besides, I want to wait for you. It feels really good, you know” he forced a weak smile.

“How is life? Everything is okay?” he put his palms on the boy’s cheeks, thumbs stroking the milky skin.

He nodded. “I just want a hug from you”

Changmin pulled him into his arms, swaying their body a bit. “I’ll be here every time you need me”

“I know.” Tighten his arms.

“OMG, I missed you so much”

“Did you just say that you missed me?”

“Don’t you ever disappear like that again”.

He nodded, face hidden in the other’s chest.

“Are you staying here tonight?”

Shaking his head, he teased, “Gods know what you will do to me this time”

Changmin pouted, feeling his face heat up. What? Am I that horrified? “So, I’ll walk you home okay?” he offered.

He winked, whispering “uhm… but… later …”
