A Jeunet moment

Weird scene underground at Powell on Friday. Every morning on my way to work I walk down a wide white tiled corridor in Powell Street station. At the end of the corridor one can turn right to ascend towards the South side of Market Street, or left for the North side. Straight ahead are some stainless steel panels that I'd never given much thought to. Lined up down the middle of this corridor, following its curve out of site, a variety of suitcases lay on their backs. A few more were propped up against the right-hand wall. I stood in the doorway and peered in. To the left, several white panels (shelves maybe?) leaned against the wall. In front of those panels, two men stood with their backs to me, inspecting or working on something under the soft blue glow of a headlamp. One of the panels had a hand-written sign taped to it, but I couldn't read it because one of the men was blocking it. It felt like something out of a Jeunet movie (Amelie, Delicatessen). Most odd...
