The conference / Nice is nice

Important: for the sake of pete, don't go to a WASET conference.  They suck.
Guess where I was over the weekend?

I was led to understand that I was attending the "International Conference on Medical Informatics and Biomedical Engineering", which would be right up my street, so I prepared a paper, found funding, and toddled off to Nice for the weekend.  I must admit that I was a bit confused when I got the timetable as a lot of the papers didn't seem to be very medical.
Turns out that the "conference" was just a session within the "International Conference on Computer, Electrical, and Systems Science, and Engineering".  Large portions of which were on economics...  and business... and humanities...
Er.  Not impressed.  There were all of 10 people in my "conference".  I think all but one were actually presenting.  Still, it was a useful dry run for a proper conference I guess...
Oh, and the poster session just didn't happen.  We turned up, we waited, and waited, and waited.  An hour and a half after the supposed start time, we cut our losses.

On the upside, I did get more free time than I anticipated, and Nice was indeed nice.  The sun shone, but it wasn't too hot, and I spent many pleasant hours with a book on the beach.  Sadly, on the last day, I spent some not-so-pleasant hours trying not to have asthma attacks, conveniently at the same time as travelling across town between the centre, my hotel and the airport.  Flying with aching chest muscles is not much fun.  Flying at night is very pretty though.

asthma, conference, dphil, nice
