I finally did some experimental work today, thanks to my supervisor returning from the US and spending about 4 hours helping me get set up. We've now got a working closed flow loop, and we've managed to inject bubbles and see them using ultrasound. Not bad for an afternoon's work! I might post some piccys later if there's interest.
Interestingly, we decided to use an IV giving set as it's one of the few things that have the right connector for the 4-way tap. Turns out this was a lucky choice, as we now have a built in bubble filter (to stop bubbles we didn't want), and a convenient way of altering the flow rate. This has let us "stop" the bubbles in their tracks by balancing the flow against the buoyancy. It's all very exciting, and has the bonus of me learning how to use an IV giving set, should that ever be useful in the future.
