The days really do seem to fly by here in Dortmund. Well, let's see what I've done since my last update. After returning from Amsterdam, I spent one relaxing day around the apartment - I cleaned, did laundry, all that fun stuff. Then Caro (my Dortmund double) invited me to spend the weekend at her house. Of course I couldn't say no!
Caro's a student here at the Uni - she's studying to become an English teacher and she's also learning how to teach German as a foreign language. She still lives at home with her parents in Herne, a small town about 30 minutes drive from here. She is one of the nicest people I have ever met, and I always have a great time when I'm with her. We started the weekend out right - a delicious dinner and then a Harry Potter marathon. We watched movies 2 and 3 because I had never seen them (I've only read the books). The next day we met up with her boyfriend, Tim, and went to Recklinghausen to go shopping. That night her mom made us another great meal. Afterwards, we played several board games, drank wine, and talked. Her mom and I discussed books, politics, languages, and lots of other stuff that I don't remember. The next day her parents took us to some sort of nature reserve and we hiked around for an hour or so. The weather was perfect, and it was a great way to end the weekend. And the best part - I spoke German almost the entire time. I was so proud of myself...
Unfortunately, I did catch a cold from Caro so I've been pretty much in bed since the weekend. Today I woke up feeling much better though, so hopefully I won't have to go to the doctor. I start my classes on Monday, but I don't have anything to do until then... which is very nice.
So I discovered a great thing this week - Skype. All you have to do is go here (
www.skype.com) and download the software. As long as you have a microphone attached to your computer, you can call any other Skype user in the world for free. Just search for "susan gregg" and you'll find me.
Well, time to take a shower and start my day.
