It's not the doctor, really. It's the rest.
It was very interesting to have the optometrist one day and the ophthalmologist the next. Everyone in Dr. Yu's office was nice, and listened and explained and set expectations. Dr. Yu was kind and warm and patient. And there was no waiting.
Dr. Johnson's staff pretty much treated me like an inconvenience. Dr. Johnson was ok and friendly but I had to wait and wait and wait. 10 minutes in the lobby. 50 minutes in a small overheated room at the end of the corridor where, honestly, I figured they had just forgotten me.
His tech took me into one room and told me to sign a form. No info about what the form was for (it was your basic you could die but we don't think you will). She said "So the doctor explained it all to you." and I said "No, I don't know anything about it." Nothing from her. She took me to another room - the tiny airless bunker and dropped a mess of different drops in my eye, explaining nothing and said "wait here: and left. The doctor came in 50 minutes later.
The actual procedure was interesting and quick. He did say that he didn't think my right eye needed it and it was not yet bad enough for insurance to cover it. Today's procedure was covered. He said he wanted to check on it in a month.
The end. I will be going to Dr. Yu for my annual checkups from here on out.
I may or may not go back to see this guy in a month. I have a month to decide.
My eye is sore-ish. More sore than when I had my cataracts cut out.
Between the bright sun and one dilated eye, I had a hard time walking down the steep hills. After about 5 blocks I gave up and called Lyft.
Both my Lyft rides were spectacularly luxurious. With ZERO waiting. I am definitely using them more often. Parking would have cost me about $12. And I'm not entirely sure driving home would have worked anyway. The total of the Lyft rides was $17 but that's because I over tipped. I could have easily gotten there and back for $12 and still tipped well. My regular doctor and my lung doctor are all at the same place. I may never drive there again.
