Author's Notes: I don't own the characters, yadda yadda, you know the drill. Hope you like it!
The battle is over. Caspian has been restored to his castle and the Narnians once again have what is theirs. As the soon to be king is laying on his bed, contemplating the insanity of the past few days, what with the end of the battle and getting everything ready for his upcoming coronation, he hears a quiet knock on his bedroom door. He hops out of bed quickly to open the door, where he is surprised to see just who he has been longing to see all day.
“Susan,” he whispers. “It is late- is everything okay?”
“Yes, everything is fine,” she responds, seeming nervous. She pulls her bottom lip between her teeth and takes a deep breath. “I just- I wanted to- Caspian, oh my goodness!”
She loses thought of whatever it was she was going to say as she lays her eyes on Caspian’s bare chest and stomach, visible through his unbuttoned shirt. He had forgotten to button it back up when he got out of his bed. Dammit, I hope Peter or Edmund don’t walk by. This surely can’t look good.
“What?”
“Caspian, have you not had anyone take a look at your wounds since the battle?” Susan inquired, stepping more fully into the room as she places a hand on his shoulder and pushes him back towards his bed. “Here, lay down. And take your shirt the rest of the way off. Don’t say it.” She cuts him off when she sees the smirk on his face, predicting the cheeky response she knew he had waiting after her order for him to undress.
Susan quickly busied herself by grabbing a few washcloths and a bowl of warm water from his washing chambers, as well as some salve and bandages. She made her way to his bed, where she ordered him to slide over with a quiet “Scoot”, and then sat lightly on the edge. She put the bowl and the cloth on Caspian’s other side, leaning over him to dip a cloth in the warm water before setting to her work.
“How did you manage to sneak past all the nurses we had ready to tend to everyone’s wounds when we got back to the castle?”
“I’ve never really been a big fan of nurses or anyone dressing my own wounds- ow,” he sucked in a quick breath as Susan’s cloth hit one of the particularly nasty cuts.
“I’m sorry, I’m really trying to be as gentle as I can. Why have you never liked nurses?”
“It’s a long story, My Queen,” he whispers, trying to avert her inquiring gaze.
She sees the look in his eyes and decides not to linger on the subject. Maybe if they have more time together, she can ask him then.
“You don’t have to call me Queen, Caspian. We’re equals.”
“Not yet, My Qu-“
“In two days, we will be. That is close enough. And anywho- in my book, you’re already a king.”
She looks up from her work to meet his eyes with a gentle and reassuring smile, and only brings her eyes back to his abdomen once he returns the smile and a nod.
“Caspian, these cuts are dangerously close to becoming infected. What, may I ask, were you planning to do?”
“I don’t know,” he replied, somewhat embarrassedly. “I was kind of hoping they would just go away?”
Susan let out a quiet “Ha!” in response and continued about her work. As her gentle fingers finished cleaning each of the cuts on his abdomen, she reached for the salve.
“Now, this will probably sting a little bit, but that’s only because its fighting the dirt and whatnot that I couldn’t get to deep inside the cuts.”
Caspian knew what the salve felt like; he had used it on himself many times before. He nodded to Susan before biting his lip and closing his eyes, tightening his fists around his bed sheets while awaiting the initial sting.
Soon, though, he felt the bed shift just a little as Susan adjusted her weight. He assumed that she was just trying to get comfortable, but after she sat back down, he felt a hand brushing his hair out of his face. He opened his eyes to see that Susan was a lot closer to his face than she had been ten seconds prior. With her hand lingering on his neck, Susan leaned down and pressed her lips to his in a gentle kiss, smiling when she felt his hand go to her face and pull her down even more. Eventually, she broke off the kiss, pulling back only slightly, barely an inch.
“That’s what I came in here for, initially,” she says in a whisper, smiling at the awestruck look that remained on his face. “That’s why I was so nervous. I’ve been wanting to approach you for days to see if maybe you felt the same way as I do about you, but I wasn’t sure if I was just imagining the chemistry between us or-“
She was cut off as Caspian leaned up to close the gap between them and captured her lips in his. The hand he had on her face swept back to entangle in her hair, pulling her even closer to him. He smiled when he felt her smile against his mouth. Susan sat up slightly, one arm on either side of his shoulders, and bit her lip.
“Well, I guess that answers my question?”
“Yes, My Qu-Susan.” He replied when she shot him a warning look.
Caspian reached up to tuck a piece of Susan’s hair behind her ear, letting his hand stay on her neck, thumb stroking her cheek. She closed her eyes at his touch and smiled.
“I’m glad I came by tonight.”
“I’m glad you kissed me.”
Blue eyes shot up to meet brown as Susan laughed.
“Yes, I’m glad I kissed you, too.” She leaned down to kiss him once more. “Hmm, I could get used to that. “
She allowed Caspian to pull her back into another sweet kiss, unable to resist his happy eyes and soft lips.
“Okay.” Kiss.
“Caspian, I have to-“ Kiss.
“Finish applying-” Kiss.
“Thesalvetoyourwounds!” Kiss. “Okay, I s’pose it can wait,” she murmured against his lips, and he smiled. Eventually, though, lack of oxygen caused them to separate, and Susan took the chance to scoot back to her original spot on the bed before Caspian could draw her in again.
“No, come back,” he pouted, extending a hand and running it down her arm, lingering at her hand for a second before twining his fingers with hers.
“Caspian, I haven’t gone anywhere.” Susan laughed before pulling his hand to her lips and kissing his knuckles.
In response, Caspian stuck his bottom lip out and gave her his best puppy dog eyes. He was a bit out of practice, since it had been a long time since he had been able to use the look on his parents and he wouldn’t dare try it on his uncle, but he thought he was giving it a pretty good go.
In response, Susan laughed. Oh, how beautiful her laugh was.
“Caspian, with a mischievous little brother like Edmund and a little sister like Lucy, do you really think that I wouldn’t be immune to that trick by now? I do have to admit though, “she whispered, standing and leaning over him to give him one more kiss, “Yours is a lot cuter. Just let me finish dressing your cuts and then I’m all yours.”
Caspian liked the sound of that. I’m all yours. I sure hope so, My Queen.
