RD, in the book, has very little part in their adventures. She appears at the end of their travels so I actually don't understand how she can be their guide. She kind of just shows up, introduces her father Ramandu and that's pretty much the gist of it.

Hopefully the movie makes her a little more dimensional, and possibly more likeable. I haven't decided whether I like her or not because I have such a grudge against how badly Caspian/RD were written in the books so, we'll have to see. =P

In general the film does look like it strays from the book quite a bit, and that's not necessarily a bad thing. Prince Caspian was a huge jump from the book and it turned out brilliantly. And any change that actually has Peter and Susan appear is ace in my books.

i totally get what you mean. i guess for those who have read the books it'll be a little hard to grasp, but personally i don't mind them straying from the original as long as they do it well-- they changed things in prince caspian as well and we wound up with something pretty damn good, so i know they can do it.

i can't say i like her already, but i have a good feeling about her and i usually end up running with my first impression. for some reason i tend to like characters that break up my ships better than i like the characters in the ship... >.> i'm just weird like that. xD but we'll see how it goes.

I agree with Kitoky. I also saw the trailer when I went to see HP7, and my first response right after the "OMG Narnia!*flail*" was: I don't know what book you used, but I don't think it's the one I read.

Then I decided to hold off judgment until I actually saw the thing. I don't know how I feel about RD getting more screen time. Part of me likes the fact they are giving a little more character development to somebody who will become important later on, but another part of me just doesn't like her on principle.

haha! i know that feeling. it's the same one lewis purists used to throw at us when prince caspian premiered. =P i don't mind changes, tbh, so long as they're handled well. i think this has a lot of potential to be really good.

precisely because she was basically a non-entity in the books, i think developing her a little more can't be bad... unless they push too hard and ends up being a mary sue, that is. although from the looks of the trailer, it seems to me like she's only in that one scene... my guess is, if she's their "guide," she'll be guiding them from the sky. and probably appear again at the very end of the movie, probably, but i don't think she'll suddenly become a protagonist or anything. we'll have to wait and see on that one, i guess.

Hmm, that last hadn't occurred to me. I guess it would make sense, her being the daughter of a star and all. And I don't have anything against her, really, but characters that are too flawless just irk me. :)

And, don't worry, I'm not a purist. *lol* Straying from canon can be a good thing, Casue is proof of that. It's just that, in the movie, they make it seem like Narnia is getting ready for one big battle again, whereas the book is more like a row of smaller adventures. I get that the latter isn't as 'spectacular' to make into a movie, so I worried they might've adapted the story a little too much to fit Hollywood standards...

But perhaps I'm fretting too much. I tend to do that. :)
