Day 19: flood (ST:ENT, Tucker/Reed, PG)

Flood Tide (this is kind of a sequel to day 15 ‘slob’)

“Okay, close your eyes.”

Malcolm frowned. “Why? It’s just our new quarters, isn’t it?”

Trip sighed. “It’s a surprise, Malcolm.”

“That’s what worries me.”

“Malcolm …”

“Okay, okay,” Malcolm chuckled. “Show me your big surprise.”

Trip waggled his eyebrows. “Well, I was savin’ that for later …”

Malcolm rolled his eyes. “Oh, just get on with it!”

He closed his eyes and waited for Trip to open the door to their newly expanded joint living space. He heard the soft hiss of the door opening, and then Trip guided him carefully across the threshold and into the room.

“Okay, you can open them again.”

Malcolm did. “Oh Trip,” he gasped, slowly turning a full 360-degrees. A large double bed had replaced Trip’s original bunk, and against the opposite wall two desks sat side by side under the viewport. In the middle of the room was a couch and a coffee table, and of to one side was an intimate dining area.

But it wasn’t just the space, or the furniture. The place was … tidy. After the two weeks they’d just spent squeezed into Malcolm’s small cabin, that alone was bliss. More than that, it was decorated - tastefully so - with his own possessions and Trip’s. His own MKI phase pistol; Trip’s antique diving helmet. Pictures of Maddy and Elizabeth. Malcolm felt a flood tide of emotion well up inside him. It really was both of them combined.

“What d’you think?” Trip murmured in his ear, sliding his arms around Malcolm from behind.

He leaned back into the embrace. “I think I want to try out that bed,” he murmured.
