Day 11: action (original fiction, PG-13 for swears)

Police, Camera, Action!

“IC1 white male,” I yell into my radio as I sprint after the suspect. “Black hooded top, blue jeans, white trainers and a red backpack, heading down the lane behind Miekle Street, towards Storie Street. I am in pursuit, repeat, I am in pursuit.”

Sean’s gone down the main road in the car to try and cut him off, but any second now he could duck through a gate into someone’s back yard. I don’t dare glance behind me, but I hope to buggery the cameraman’s keeping up.

Just a normal day, they said. Don’t do anything different from what you normally would, they said.

Yeah, right. The TV crew’s looking for something exciting. Well, they’ve got it now.

I’m gaining on the little toerag, burdened as he is. Kids today - can’t even outrun a copper in full body-armour. I tackle him to the ground just in time to see Sean running up from the other end of the lane. I lean down and say in his ear, “You’re nicked, mate.”

The TV crew comes jogging up behind me. What’s-his-name, the director, wipes a hand across his brow. “Charlie, that was wonderful, but ... is there any chance of doing it again?”
