A seemingly abandoned house on Godiva Street, Tuesday Morning

Jul 24, 2012 17:12

Since yesterday's meeting, Kate had spent the majority of the rest of the day informing everyone she could about the plan to take Detention on Saturday. And at the end of the day, she'd fallen into a bed that had seen better days in this house that had worked as a hideout for a few days now. Maybe if they were lucky, they'd manage to stay still ( Read more... )

Oh, Luke had heard but he didn't acknowledge it as he wandered around the house. Not only did it seem impolite, but Luke was so stuck in his own brooding that he didn't really have the inclination to worry about someone else's. Even if they were singing about it for the world to hear.

He knew he had some pretty dark thoughts about Kate's whole matter anyway, so he just hoped he could keep his mouth shut. He was humming as he went along and he hoped the island was satisfied with that.

Kate didn't have high hopes for that.

But she emerged from behind her closed door some moments later, anyway. Still red-eyed and sort of sniffling, but if he didn't draw attention to it, she wasn't going to, either.

"Morning."

Luke hummed again, but this one was more of an acknowledgement than some wordless tune. He offered Kate the cup of coffee he had made for himself. He could always grab another. He had plenty of (slightly damp) supplies after yesterday.

Rubbing at her eye with one hand, Kate took the cup, grateful. "Thanks."

Some steallr conversation, right here. She took a sip, hoping the caffeine would sort her out a little bit. Maybe she'd even manage more than one or two syllables at a time in a moment!

"Mmm hmm." Luke wasn't doing so well on the conversation front either. "Any news?"

"What, besides the fact that we're storming Detention on Saturday?" Kate drawled, cradling the cup with both hands, now. "None."

"Well that should be fun," Luke said even though his heart wasn't really into it. Why would it be? Unless one of those people knew how to take a curse off they were useless to him. He may have been on Team Good for once but a Hermes child could never really shake off the "what's in it for me?" mindset.

"I should be in working order by then."

Kate's heart was only in it for the chance at retribution, at this point. She couldn't blame him.

"Something happen?"

She was concerned, even if it wasn't too forceful in her tone. Crying within minutes of waking up had that effect on her.

"The usual." That answer wasn't really good enough for the island, apparently, since he started singing right after he said that.

I was a heavy heart to carry
My beloved was weighed down
My arms around his neck
My fingers laced to crown.

I was a heavy heart to carry
My feet dragged across ground
And he took me to the river
Where he slowly let me drown

He winced and rubbed his forehead. "I fucking hate my life."

"Yeah, join the club," Kate said but her expression had softened. Somewhat. "Oh, right, except it's not a club you join, it's one you get kidnapped into."

Luke made another hum of acknowledgement, still a little pissed at himself for singing. "I was going to say before the interruption, he let me get away, but not before I knocked up my side a bit."

"That brat has to sense of timing." Was that meant to be humor? Even she couldn't have said for sure. "I'm sorry."

"It'll heal up soon enough," Luke said even though he knew that wasn't what Kate was apologizing for. "I prefer him hurting me. When he shows mercy it...gets confusing."

"Mm." Kate knew how that worked, but she didn't have anyone on the loyal sidewho she thought was likely to show her even the slightest bit of mercy, so. It was mostly a theoretical understanding on her part. "Keep a light on those you love, they will be there when you die."

... Well, that just sounded morbid, at least to her. Damn island.

Luke laughed bitterly, taking that morbidly as well. "That will be the case most likely. I wouldn't want anyone else to do it, truth be told."

"Not that you'll get to choose." Yeah, okay, that was morbid on purpose, now. She took another sip of coffee. "Or at least I hope it won't come to that."
