Assumptions

Assumptions that are made about me on the interwebz:
1. I'm not hideous looking so I must be stuck up and/or ditzy or both.
2. I live in utah so I must be Mormon, conservative, fearful of everything different, brainwashed "bible thumper' and a sister wife.
3. I am married to a guy so I must be close minded.
4. I am a stay at home mom..so I must be a privileged opinionated bitch.
5. I attachment parent which must mean I think anyone who parents in a more mainstream way doesn't love their kids.
5. I am married to a military guy..which means I must be a staunch republican.
6. I love Halloween but considering all the above..I must be a poser.

... oh the list goes on.

These are *ALL* wrong assumptions. Be mindful that what you see of people on the internet isn't their whole complicated being but only a tiny sliver. Don't disregard or put down someone just because of that teeny sliver you see of them. If you give them a chance, they might surprise you and you might find a kindred spirit in an unexpected place.

I was born in near Anaheim, California. I grew up in Tustin until the middle of elementary school when we moved to the south suburbs of Chicago.

My father is an athiest and getting is doctorate in astro physics at a university in Texas. My mother is and artist that specializes in plein air style and her husband (my stepdad) is a retired attorney that are active members of the LDS church (they just finished an 18 month stint in the suburbs of Chicago, donating their time to help people become more employable by teaching interviewing, resume and computer skills to those that wanted them..for no charge).

I have a brother that is a cop and a brother that is a photographer. I have a sister who is a student majoring in gerontology.

I craft constantly. I build things, regularly.

I majored (still take classes) in US History with a focus on early American history (1620-1870), minored in music (I play the Bflat clarinet, tenor sax and piano)

I have celiac disease and ventricular septal defect.

I donate blood every other month.

My husband (of 10 years and political science guru) is a full time military guy (special forces, former recon marine) who listens to NPR and gets teased for it at work. a few years ago he spent 5 months in the VA's intensive care unit suffering from something called Iraqibacter/Baumanii and lost part of his heart to the infection. Everyone said he would die. He had his last rights read and his parents were preparing funeral arrangements but luckily he survived. It took him a year to learn to walk, eat, dress himself again. We still deal with physical issues from his hospitalization but everyday is a wonderful day...because he is with us. He is the son of immigrants who fled a tyrannical government and were granted asylum but had to wait in Chile for years before they were granted that privilege.

We have a child that is amazing and a complete miracle.

Together, we have a teeny house with 3 dogs (mostly rescues) a parrot and a colony of madagascar hissing cockroaches.

We are not religious because most religions' essences are that some people are more worthy of acceptance/love than others and I can't abide by that. So we consider ourselves secular humanists.
