I just got a subscription to Netflix. I have seen almost no movies or TV in the past year, and there are a lot of "classic" movies I've never seen. Does anyone have any recommendations for my queue -- any longtime personal favorites or recent good watches? I've already ordered the first season of The Office ( Read more... )

I like almost everything as long as it's not super-depressing/nihilistic, grotesque, or chick-y.

Those largely conform to my specs, althought I may have greater tolerance for both the grotesque and chick-y.

I recommend Time Bandits.

Favorite movies... hmm... I'm forgetful when it comes to coming up with any one demand. But here are some I like: Grosse Pointe Blank, 10 Things I Hate About You, Nausicaa, Strictly Ballroom, Run, Lola, Run, Clueless, Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels

If I really was making up a top 10, then the new Wallace and Gromit movie would be on it too.
