This afternoon I was waiting for the #43 bus in front of the hospital. The bus stopped, but it was unusually full, and no one made any attempt to move to the back of the bus, so no one could get on. I was pissed off and nearly in tears because I was tired and just wanted to get home, and had I known that the bus would pass us by (something is seriously wrong when people can't get on at the second bus stop!), I would have gotten on the #33 bus that had gone by five minutes prior. Not wanting to wait for another ten minutes (for a total of twenty minutes) only to have another bus pass me by, I decided that my only option to guarantee that I get on a fucking bus is to backtrack to the bus loop.

Unfortunately, if I didn't make it to the bus loop before the next bus left, then I'd have to wait yet another ten minutes for the third bus, for a total of thirty minutes, so I was desperate to catch the bus. Even though the bus loop was a fairly short distance away--only a two minute bus ride--it's still a considerable trek, especially with a heavy bag. (Two minutes of driving time is roughly 10 minutes of walking time.) I made it to the bus loop, just in time to see it pull away. However, the bus driver stopped beside another bus and opened the front doors in order to chat with the driver of the other bus, so I ran up to the open door and jumped on the bus. The bus driver was totally cool with it, and he was really friendly. (I told him my tale of woe, and said that he had really made my day.) When we got to the stop in front of the hospital, even though the bus was just as full as the bus that passed us by, the driver ordered people to move back, and everyone who needed to get on did. And even though the bus was really crowded for several stops, the bus driver made an effort to pick every one up along the way, and didn't leave anyone waiting.
