As usual, I'm going to school in the summer. This summer, I'm taking two genetics courses--BIOL 334, and if I pass that, then BIOL 335. Each course is offered during the winter term, so each course is normally one semester long. However, during the summer each course is condensed into one month! Eek! Because it is so condensed, I have class five days a week, four hours a day (a two hour lecture and a two hour tutorial, with a break in between). BIOL 334 started today, and we have a quiz on Friday, and a midterm on June 5th. It's just so weird to have just started a course, and have the midterm two weeks away, but being only a month long, June 5th is approximately the middle of the term.

BIOL 334 Basic Genetics

Mendelian genetics, chromosome theory of heredity, linkage, mutation, mapping, gene structure and function, gene interaction, quantitative genetics, population genetics.

BIOL 335 Molecular Genetics

Isolation and identification of genes, analysis of gene structure; gene expression and its regulation in prokaryotes and in eukaryotes; developmental genetics.

Speaking about genetics, my grade 12 English teacher was an idiot and thought Gregor Mendel was a Nazi! I don't recall the exact details anymore, but I remember that we were having a class discussion and for some reason, someone mentioned Mendel (I have no idea how Mendel related to whatever we were talking about, but it was somehow relevant or tied in to the topic being discussed). The person didn't explain who Mendel was, as we all knew who he was referring to, but simply mentioned his name. My teacher then said something about Mendel, and we were all like, "WTF?" and she was like, "Mendel was a Nazi, right?" And we were like, "Uh...no. He was a monk who did genetic experiments on peas!" Perhaps she was thinking of Mengele, but still, it was hilarious.
