My first attempt at slash and my first Stargate fic of any length. It kicked my ass, friends.

Solace
By Jennghis Kahn (surrealphantast)
Assignment: The shipslashomgwtfathon! I’m writing a fic for Raqs, who has requested the following be used in the fic: Ben & Jerry's New York Super Fudge Chunk. Pornographic glass. And the word "vulture".
Restrictions: No Fucking Footy Pajamas.
Rating- NC-17 for language and graphic sexual situations.
Warnings- SLASH and HET living together, mass chaos! Awful liberties taken with ascension. Dudes, I use the name "Danny" in this, forgive me. I was a noob.
Pairings- Jack/Sam and Jack/Ascended Daniel, shippy type Sam/Daniel friendship
Spoilers- Meridian, Abyss, somewhat for Full Circle and Fallen.

Summary- The team misses Daniel with a vengeance. His absence has affected them more than anyone had thought possible. This is really Jack’s story, so it’s all his POV. Takes place a year after Daniel’s ascension and just before Full Circle. Lucky, lucky Jack.

Notes- I’m really liberally interpreting that whole ‘pornographic glass’ thing. I vaguely remember seeing something on late night cable TV that fit. I had a hell of a time with this. This damn story really kicked my ass. I got desperate and had to grab for a rather cliché’ story idea. Hope it’s entertaining anyway.

Being buried inside Samantha Carter was a little like going through the stargate, Jack O’Neill thought lazily as his lips found the smooth, taut skin of her throat. You had that brief, exciting wave of anticipation just before you went in… and then you were out of control and lost and at the mercy of things far greater than yourself.

Her skin had a slightly sweet taste, or maybe that was just in his mind. He wasn’t sure and, to be honest, he really didn’t give a shit right at the moment. What he did give a shit about was the way her fingers were stroking in circles on his nape and the way her body arched up towards his, moving with him and against him in all the right ways. He was aware of every little detail, from the feel of her lean thighs against his hips to the way she gasped in his ear with just that hint of voice in it.

He lowered his body more fully against hers, liking the way her breasts rubbed against him as he moved.

“Sam…” He was usually a silent partner, but couldn’t help the soft rumble of her name as she adjusted and moved against him. Fuck. She made him feel powerful and unguarded at the same time.

The outside world ceased to exist for a while.

He pushed deeper, feeling her respond by clutching his shoulders and pulling him closer. More liquid heat ran up his spine straight from his cock and made his mind muddy. He was thrusting so hard, he was forcing her whole body back and forth, and he could hear his own ragged breaths.

When she suddenly clutched at him hard and pressed her mouth to his shoulder, muffling her cry, he felt his thoughts breaking apart like smoke. She convulsed beneath him, giving him that last push. For a moment, he was vaguely aware of the hint of voice in his own gasps and then the only awareness he had was the all-encompassing wave of toe-curling pleasure that exploded within him.

God.

He took a few moments to recover, lying heavily on top of her, his face buried in the damp hair at her temple. He was pleased that she didn’t seem to mind. Her hand stroked his back absently. He was comfortable and thought he could fall asleep, but it was getting a little hot and sticky with all the naked skin pressed together. He moved off of her and collapsed to his back beside her.

He took a deep breath and closed his eyes. Shit. After the first time this had happened, he’d swore ‘never again’. He’d managed to keep that promise for nearly a year before his resolve had melted away like ice in the sun. It’d been one long year.

“I can’t believe it’s been one year since he… left.” Sam’s voice came from beside him, soft and even.

“Yeah.” Jack thought briefly about his time with Ba’al. Not quite a year since he, himself, had seen Daniel, but for Carter…

He thought about Daniel’s funeral last year. It had been a strange thing for those SGC members who had been in the room when Daniel, what, left? Was he gone or not? Either way he’d been gone from Earth, and SG-1 was missing one quarter of its heart. It had been a hard day and the future had seemed dim then.

At the wake, he and Sam had managed to make it to his garage before they’d fallen into each other at last, desperate to forget and eager to feel something else besides pain. Anything else. It’d been fast, intense and completely unavoidable. They’d stayed entwined together against the wall for a long time afterwards. Silent and lost, together in the dark.

It hadn’t necessarily been awkward between them in the days and weeks following, but Jack had always kept his emotions in check where pain was involved. He’d retreated from her in record time, knowing he’d left her feeling confused and angry but not able to help himself.

She’d been quiet and short with him for a time, and he’d found himself holding her gaze for long periods of time, hoping she’d somehow understand. He was angry with himself for driving a wedge between them. Angry at her for giving in and not understanding. Angry at Daniel for… everything.

Even Sam hadn’t quite understood all that he’d lost when Daniel died.

One night so long before. Tangled sheets and legs, fluidly moving muscle, masculine groans and the tang of sweat in the air. Another night, just like this one… but different bodies.

“I just thought it’d be nice if we did something special today, you know?” Her eyes didn’t have tears in them, but there was pain. Jack swallowed. He hated for any member of SG-1 to be in pain, but when Sam’s was so damn tangible like this, he felt like shit.

If by ‘special’ you mean ‘have a nice, intense fuck’… then mission accomplished, Major.

He was being unfair and he knew it.

“Yeah.” He repeated then he forced himself to look her in the eye. “I just ah. I didn’t want to spend this day on Earth. There’s no one there who would understand.”

She looked puzzled. “Hammond? Janet?”

“Not like we do, Sam.” His use of her given name silenced her. And there were other memories that he’d just as soon not remember in a secret base full of people. Memories of shared warmth and hoarse cries that he didn’t want anyone to see him missing.

She nodded and a quiet calm descended upon them. When he glanced at her again, her eyes were closed and he could hear her breathing deeply and softly. He watched her for a few moments, letting her peace sink into him.

He got up a few minutes later and pulled on his pants, walking barefoot outside. PX1-334 was a very, very rainy planet, and it thrummed on the roof of the small structure they slept in. The night was warm and the rain was cool as it ran down his chest. He relieved himself with a sigh and buttoned his BDU’s back up again.

They were supposed to have left this planet this morning for home, and Jack had been growing slowly more morose over the thought, knowing they’d be walking into a SGC full of memories of Daniel. Maybe there’d be a whole ‘thing’ and they’d be expected to talk about the archeologist and all he’d meant to them.

Bullshit! They say they know how we felt, but they don’t know. And I don’t want to waste time telling them.

So, when Jonas had come forward and asked for another day to make an attempt at a locked room deep in a nearby temple, Jack had jumped on it with uncharacteristic enthusiasm. Lots of good things in those temples alright. Get to it, Jonas! One more day it is!

Teal’c had glared and Sam had argued, but he was the Colonel, damn it. He’d made a decision. Sam had walked out of the temple alone, and he’d ordered Teal’c to stay with Jonas for the night while he went after her, preparing for an argument he didn’t want to have.

Instead, he’d walked into this old structure to confront her… and damn. Somehow Daniel’s life and death had come crashing back on them and they’d ended up right back where they’d started a year ago. Tangled around each other and trying their hardest to forget.

Jack reached up and rubbed his eyes tiredly. He looked at the sleeping Sam as he settled back down beside her in his own sleeping bag. They had forgot for a while but never for long. The rain lulled him to sleep a few minutes later.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

He wasn’t sure how long he slept, but it was dark and silent when he woke. The rain had stopped, and there was a dim light coming through the window from the planet’s two moons. He heard Sam breathing quietly beside him.

Something was wrong.

He stilled and listened intently, his eyes staring upwards towards the dark ceiling. What was it?

“Hi, Jack.”

Jack frowned. His chest tightened up immediately at the familiar voice and he didn’t move, didn’t look.

“Jack?”

Dreaming. I’m dreaming. Jack closed his eyes and tried to relax.

“Jack!” The voice was obviously annoyed now. Well… some things never changed, did they? He finally opened one eye and looked down towards his feet.

Daniel knelt there, looking at him. He was shadowed but a little glowy. He wore his BDU’s and that black T-shirt that looked so good on him. “You know I’m real so stop pretending you’re asleep.”

Jack opened both eyes and stared at him. “Hello, Daniel. Been here long?” He glanced nervously towards the sleeping Sam.

Daniel also glanced that way and pressed his lips together. “Ahhh… not that long, no.”

“Good. I’d hate to think you’d become a peeping… ghost.” Jack winced a bit at the last word but had no better term to use.

Daniel made ‘the face’ and then ignored the comment. He smiled a bit and his voice softened. “It’s been one year since I ascended.”

“Yes.” Jack agreed almost nonchalantly. “Did you think we’d have cake?”

“Do you?”

“No.”

“OK then. So we can move on to other things now?”

Jack narrowed his eyes. “You’d think being ascended would make a person less of a smartass.”

“Yeah, you’d think.” Daniel replied dismissively. He seemed to take a deep breath and his eyes fell on the sleeping form of Sam and stayed.

Did he have to breathe anymore, Jack wondered? Then he watched the younger man silently for a while before saying softly, “She misses you.”

Daniel’s mouth turned up at the corners. He reached out with one radiant arm and his fingers brushed over Sam’s cheek. The wisps of blond hair that rested over her eyes were stroked aside by long, lean fingers that suddenly turned much more corporeal. “I miss her too.”

Jack watched the affection in Daniel’s eyes and felt a sharp pang of loss suddenly. “We all… miss you.”

“I know.”

Another silence.

Jack’s eyes grew darker and searching. “You should wake her up and talk to her. She’s had a bad day.”

Daniel stared down at her almost hesitantly. When he looked at Jack again, he shook his head. “She’ll be OK, Jack. It’s you I came to talk to.” His blue eyes connected with Jack's in the darkness. "I came to warn you."

Jack looked at him suspiciously. “We’re not trapped in some mind-altering machine, are we? Our fantasies turning us into willing slaves?” He glanced at Sam.

“Uh, no.” Daniel stated with long-suffering firmness. His eyes flashed annoyance. Jack almost smiled.

“Things are going to happen very soon.” Daniel explained hesitantly.

“Yes, things often do.”

“Jack.” His voice was filled with impatience and warning.

“Well, Daniel, can you be any more cryptic?” Jack asked sarcastically, losing patience himself.

“There are things that are going to happen that I can’t tell you about right now. But they’re coming, and you were right.”

“I was right?” Jack kept a serious expression, but there was a surprised glint in his dark eyes.

“I can’t stand by and let the people I care about die.”

“You can just let them be tortured.”

It was a deliberate blow, and Jack felt a mixture of regret and satisfaction when Daniel jerked slightly and his blue eyes dropped away from Jack’s gaze.

“I’m sorry, Jack.” Daniel’s voice was nearly a whisper. “But I won’t regret that. If I had interfered then, I wouldn’t be around to interfere now… and it’s more important now. Please believe me.”

Jack felt a dull ache in his gut at the knowledge that his own life was less important to Daniel than whatever was coming in the future, and then that ache turned to alarm.

“What’s going to happen, Daniel?”

Daniel shook his head. “Too soon. If I tell you now, they’ll know. I’ll be cast aside and there’ll be no one to help them.”

Jack exhaled slowly, his tone softening. "Damn it, Daniel."

"I can't tell you anything right now, Jack. Not yet. I just wanted you to know that I'll be seeing you soon. I just wanted to see you before it happened. Just in case."

"In case what?"

Daniel held his gaze steadily. "I don't know. I'm not completely sure what will happen to me... afterwards. But just in case..." He moved forward a bit, onto Jack's sleeping bag. Jack watched him with concern.

"Daniel, you're not even solid."

Daniel leaned over suddenly and kissed Jack on the mouth. His lips were solid and warm and soft, and Jack jerked back as if burned. He stared at Daniel in surprise.

"I can be real enough, Jack. For a while anyway."

Jack felt his throat run dry and his cock grow thick. He locked gazes with the younger man and cleared his throat. "Sam..."

"She won't wake until I let her. I'm keeping her out."

"You can do that?" Jack was trying to talk around a slow tongue and his voice was low.

"Yes."

"You know," Jack began. "She and I..."

"Jack, shut up." Daniel looked annoyed, and Jack barely had time to be angry before he was being kissed again. Daniel's tongue was buried deep in his mouth, his fingers diving into the silver hair at Jack's temples. He leaned forward as Jack leaned back and his weight was real and comforting and arousing in a way that Jack had missed for a long time.

"Danny..." Jack nearly whispered it, and his arms finally gave up his weight to the floor and worked their way around Daniel's ribs, pulling him closer. Even his shirt felt real as he pushed the black cotton up and ran his hands over the smooth skin of Daniel's back. He felt lean and well muscled and so warm that Jack was struck by it. It was as if he were radiating warmth.

Daniel's hips pushed into his, his thighs flexing against his own. It sent a flash of pleasure through Jack's blood and he breathed hard against Daniel's mouth. "I thought I told you this couldn't happen again." Jack growled breathlessly.

Daniel braced himself on hardened arms on either side of Jack's shoulders and began pressing his mouth to the Colonel's throat. "What, are you gonna tell them you had sex with a ghost?"

Jack clenched his jaw as the soft, hot mouth left a wet, tickling trail over his neck. He felt the sharp stubble of the younger man's late-day beard, just like the first time. It made his blood jump and his cock harden to stone.

"Conflict of... interest..." He ground out into Daniel's ear even as his fingers were digging into the firm muscles in his back.

"I'm not on the team anymore, Jack. Maybe not ever again."

That pissed Jack off a bit. He arched his head away from the heat of Daniel's mouth and pushed the other man off of himself and onto his stomach on the floor. Daniel was breathing harder, but didn't fight him. He laid quietly with his cheek pressed to the floor, letting Jack cozy up to him side by side and wrap his long legs with his, keeping him down. The Colonel's long, lean fingers, so like his own, tangled into his short hair and gripped it hard to get his attention. Jack's head came down and looked at him, eye to eye. His brows were drawn low, giving him a piercing, saturnine look.

"Don't you say it like that, Daniel. You will always be a member of this team and we went through fucking hell when we lost you!"

They stared at each other for a long time. Daniel said nothing but his gaze never left Jack's glittering dark eyes.

Jack swore softly and he loosened his grip on Daniel's hair, his fingers soothing and stroking where once they'd been hard.

"It's OK, Jack." Daniel whispered to him. "Everything's ok."

It was Jack who leaned forward this time and merged their mouths, letting Daniel roll up onto his side. The anger was gone, but the desperation remained. He held Daniel's head as he thrust his tongue between the man's lips, reveling in the once-familiar taste of him. He pulled at the black t-shirt, trying to yank it over Daniel's head, only to hear the younger man chuckle.

"Take it easy."

And then Daniel's clothes disappeared in a swirling wisp, leaving him naked in the dim light. Jack ran his hands down Daniel's bare back and over one slim hip. "Neat trick." He murmured against the man's lips.

"Yeah. Too bad I can't do the same for you."

Jack felt Daniel's fingers working the buttons on the fly of his BDU's. Anticipation was making him hyper-sensitive and every time Daniel's knuckles brushed over the skin at his navel, he felt like gasping. Fuck... how did he do that? His knee popped and cracked as he lifted it to get his pants off. He winced but was beyond the dull ache that should have been there. The cool air felt good and dried the sweat misting on his skin. He turned back to Daniel and had to muffle a groan when he felt the hand slide between his legs. Daniel had a light but sure touch. He gripped and stroked and pulled until Jack was clenching his jaw again in restraint. Despite the earlier union with Sam that had left him so drained, there was no taking his time now.

He had Daniel back on his stomach on the floor beneath him in moments.

"It's alright, Jack." Daniel's attempts to reassure him fell on deaf ears.

It wasn't alright, Jack thought. It wouldn't be alright until Jack was buried deep inside him. Warm and alive. And then he was there, pushing himself in, the pleasure shooting through his groin and Daniel's scent surrounding him. He dimly wondered if Daniel could feel physical pain anymore and had just enough presence of mind to doubt it.

"Daniel?" His voice was rough and forced, but he couldn't stop his hips from moving forward. He pressed his sweat-soaked forehead between Daniel's shoulder blades and slipped a hand under his chest to wrap around one shoulder. His fears were blown away when Daniel groaned one word.

"More."

Jack went up in flames.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

The rain had started again. Jack could hear it running off the roof and onto the ground outside. He winced a bit as he tried to shift position, his back feeling tight and sore. Oh, fucking hell… if there was one thing he was getting far too old for, it was getting it on with two separate team members in one night.

Not that it had been a common occurrence when he was younger. Or… ever.

“Daniel?”

“I’m here.”

Jack watched as Daniel appeared from the darkness beside him. “Was that real?”

“Like I said, it’s real enough.”

“That’s… helpful.”

Daniel smiled. “I didn’t really come here to help you, Jack. Well, not in a ‘you’re being tortured by Ba’al’ sort of way. More of a ‘stop self-destructing and get over it’ sort of way, although…”

“Daniel!” Jack’s voice was sharp and abrupt.

Daniel licked his lips and swallowed. “Sorry.” He drew his brows together and looked at Jack somberly. “Jack, I need you to trust me and take some cryptic words to heart. I need you to lead me home again.”

Jack stared at him. “What?”

“That’s all I can tell you right now. When the time comes, you’ll know what to do.”

“Daniel, I…”

“Just lead me home again, Jack. I can’t promise I’ll help you then. You’ll just have to do it yourself, but I trust you.”

Jack opened his mouth to speak again, but Daniel shook his head. Darkness filled Jack’s mind and he drifted away.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

“Jonas! Teal’c!” Jack entered the temple the next morning and called out. “Let’s get the hell out of here!”

“Colonel O’Neill?” He heard Jonas return the call from the next room and he waited as the footsteps grew louder. Jonas walked into the room, smiling and holding a large, oblong shape that seemed to be made out of glass. Jack’s gaze dropped to it. He did a double-take and then stared.

“Where’s Major Carter?” Jonas looked around with a hint of concern.

“She’s still back at that little guard tower across the yard. Thought I’d give her a few to wake up.”

“She seemed a little upset yesterday.” Jonas motioned towards the doorway.

“She’s fine.” Jack stated in his ‘this conversation is over’ tone.

Jonas nodded as the corners of his mouth turned down slightly. “OK.”

There was a short silence as Jack studied him, his eyes falling again to the object Jonas held in his hands. The long, smooth, clear shape was held reverently, Jonas’s long fingers sliding over it with distracted fascination. Jack’s brows drew together. It looked suspiciously like a… a…

“Jonas?” Jack kept his voice conversationally light, but his eyebrows were nearly as high as his hairline.

“Colonel?” Jonas smiled at him.

“Whatcha got there?” Jack stared deliberately at the- was it really a glass phallus?

Jonas looked puzzled for the briefest of moments before glancing down at the object in his hands. “Oh!” His eyes lit up and he looked up excitedly. “I found this in that locked inner chamber! There’s a bunch of these things in there. I haven’t quite figured out what they are yet, but obviously they held some importance if so many were made.”

He held the object out for Jack, who took a sudden step backwards. Oh yeah… that was a big, giant, glass dick alright.

“Uh… Jonas…”

“Look at the craftsmanship on this!”

“Jonas, you really don’t know what that…” Jack motioned at the object warily. “… is?”

Jonas gave him a puzzled glance and looked down again. “My best guess is that it’s some kind of new crystal. It’s something we haven’t seen before anyway. The Goa’uld probably stole it from another civilization.”

Did they? Jack found that a disturbing thought. What the hell did the Goa’uld need big, glass dicks for? Goa’uld… porn? He almost shivered.

“Colonel?” Jonas took a step forward in concern.

Jack backed away again. “I’m OK. Just ahh… be careful with that.”

“I should take it over and surprise Major Carter! Maybe this will cheer her up?” Jonas began walking towards the entryway of the temple.

Jack grabbed his arm, stopping his progress immediately.
“No.”

Jonas hesitated.

Jack fumbled a bit. “Normally, I’d be all for you surprising Carter with that thing, believe me. But give the girl a few minutes. OK?”

Jonas was silent for a few moments, the object forgotten in his hands. He gazed seriously at Jack. “I know what day it was yesterday.” He said softly.

Jack glanced down at the floor, feeling his chest tighten. “It hasn’t been easy for her.”

“For any of you.”

“No.”

Jonas attempted a good-natured smile but didn’t quite succeed. He turned to leave, but Jack stopped him once more. “Jonas. We don’t blame you for Daniel’s death. You do know that, right?”

“Yeah. Sure.” There was another brief smile. “I’ll just uh… get this packed up.” He held up the glass phallus again. Jack winced.

“Yes. Go. Play with your… “ He stopped immediately as he realized the corner he had just painted himself into. He opted for pressing his lips together tightly and motioning at the object again with a gloved hand and a distinctly uncomfortable look.

Jonas walked back into the depths of the temple towards his wondrous room of pornographic glass. He smiled at Teal’c as the Jaffa passed him.

Jack watched the huge warrior nod respectfully at Jonas, then the Jaffa turned his curious expression towards Jack. Jack put on his best happy face.

“Teal’c.” He greeted the other man.

“O’Neill. I believe the object Jonas is holding is a representation of a…”

“Ahh!” Jack cut him off with a panicked cry. Teal’c stopped and looked at him with brows drawn low and vulture-like over his eyes.

Jack pointed past him towards the retreating form of Jonas. “There’s not enough beer in the world for the conversation that would require. Not another word.”

Teal’c managed to look amused and reproachful at the same time, but he nodded with long-suffering patience.

“Get Jonas moving.” Jack ordered. “I want us through that gate and back home by oh nine hundred.”

“As you wish.”

Jack went out into the yard and dug through the gear on the MALP until he found the small portable freezer that was often sent to bring back biological specimens.

The guard tower wasn’t an actual tower. It was more of a smaller version of the temple, but with several stations within where a Jaffa could sit and, well, guard. The weaponry had been pulled out long ago, but the holes in the walls still remained.

He found Carter sitting on one of the tables, looking out an open window into the morning sky. She was fully dressed and had her tac vest on. Her P-90 sat on the table beside her, her pack on the floor below. She glanced up as he cleared his throat.

“Sir.” She made a half-hearted effort at standing but obviously expected him to stop her. He did.

“At ease.”

She settled back down. They were back to ‘Sir’ and ‘Carter’ again, and he felt comfortable with that. Things would need to be worked out but not today. This team was virtually synonymous with ‘conflict of interest’. He suspected it always would be. He thought that it might just be what made it work so well.

“I brought you ice cream.” Jack produced a small carton and handed it to Sam. Their eyes met, and he saw that familiar, knowing look in hers. “Ben and Jerry’s New York Super Fudge Chunk. Tealc's favorite.”

“For breakfast?” She asked, eyeing the gift with suspicion.

“Jonas ate the last of the scrambled eggs and bacon MRE’s."

He could see her indecision over it. She was wondering if it was a peace offering. If he’d fade away from her again like last time. He smiled at her just a little.

She took the carton grudgingly and pulled the lid off. She glanced into the carton, frowned, and then looked back up to where Jack stood beside her. “It’s empty.”

He shrugged. “Well, it was a long walk.”

She stared at him for a long, disbelieving moment.

He made the ‘I can’t help it’ face.

She suddenly couldn’t keep the grin in any longer and ducked her head. He waited for her to get her expression under control again. She did. Her smile eventually faded into seriousness and then sadness.

A silence fell over them, as both lost themselves in the past. The sound of voices outside broke into their thoughts as Jonas and Teal’c approached the guard tower. Jack held her gaze for a moment, trying to say things without words and knowing she’d pick up on at least some of them. She pressed her lips together and seemed to nod slightly. He relaxed and perked up.

“Jonas found something last night that he wants to show you. He’s very excited about it.”

“Really?” Her blue eyes lit up with interest.

“Oh yes. He’s all a-flutter over it. I’ll get the rest of the gear if you want to go see.”

“Yeah!” She hesitated in the doorway and looked back at him. “It is going to be OK this time, right? Between us I mean?”

He held her gaze for a few moments before answering. “It’s never not been OK between us, Carter.”

She got that half-knowing, half-confused look in her eyes and nodded slowly. “Right.”

“Go help Jonas.” He ordered softly, his eyes glittering at her.

She smiled softly. “Yes sir.”

She disappeared out the door, and Jack sat, waiting for it. He heard the soft din of familiar voices and activities, and then Sam’s surprised squawk. He grinned.

Tealc’s voice floated inside, heavy with that worried tone he got when Sam was too bold for her own good. “Major Carter!”

Jack shook his head and smiled at the flurry of voices that followed. He tied his rucksack up and stared at the small pocket that had always held extra allergy tablets… just in case.

“I’ll bring you home, Danny-boy.” He whispered. “Just give me the chance.”
