I listen to podcasts at work to pass the time. I mean... beyond actually working. Ahaha. But I thought I'd do some recs of stuff I've been enjoying lately. No links, because I haven't been able to figure out how to link to itunes, and it'd take too long to find each individual website. But they're ALL available at itunes, so just search the name, or Google it and I think they'd be easily discovered.
The Filmcast - A general movie review podcast with reviewers who aren't too nit-picky. They do discuss spoilers (and will warn you when they start), which I like but not everybody will.
Bloody Good Horror - A horror movie review show by a group of young guys. They usually have one main review and then a few smaller movies from Netflix or something. Their tastes vary and they get into spoilers occasionally. NSFW. Language.
House of Horror - My new favorite podcast. Two young guys who review horror. I like these guys, even though they sometimes seem to miss obvious points about the movies. They're film majors and so enjoy discussing all aspects of the films. They do have spoiler sections, and they summarize films, so it often feels like I'm watching the movie while working. They have one main film and then the a 'what we watched' segment, which often consists of horror movies from Netflix. NSFW. Language.
The Horror Movie Show - Two Canadian guys who review horror films. I like it, although one of the guys can irritate me from time to time. He needs to lay off the 'Americans are violent and dumb' politics, but whatever. Their reviews are decent. They're a bit older and more nit-picky. Ehhh... I don't think the language is too bad, but listen to a few eps first...
Horroretc - Two Canadian guys who review horror films. These guys are much less antagonistic than the last two. They're clearly smart and enjoy horror and are easy-going. They don't get into spoilers as much as I'd like, but overall it's a decent podcast. The first one I listened to was hilarious as they did the podcast in the woods, during a hike, upon which it started to rain. So they continued the podcast while they attempted to hike out, and it quickly devolved into a Blair Witch Project experience that was SO VERY AMUSING. Some language.
Monster Talk - I LOVE this podcast. It's related to Skeptic magazine, and it's a skeptical exploration of all things mysterious, like ghosts, Bigfoot, hauntings and all things. Their beliefs pretty much mirror mine, which is: I'm fascinated by these things, and it'd be awesome to find evidence that they DO exist, but I don't think there's any evidence yet that they do, and I don't believe they do at this time. And it's all pretty much either a mis-interpretation of information or a hoax. Listen to the episode on A Haunting in Connecticut, in which they interview the original author of the book, who dishes the dirt on the ghost 'investigators'. Some language, especially from guests.
BTR: True Murder: The Most Shocking Killers in True Crime History and the Authors Who Have Written About them - Yes, that is the title, lol. Guy interviews true crime authors about their cases. This entirely depends on how good an interview the author is. Sometimes it's great and it reads like an episode of a true crime show. Sometimes it's a bit of a dud because the author is not a good speaker. The interviewer annoyed me at first because he barely says anything to the authors to keep them talking, but then I realized that it works really, really well when the author is a good speaker. So. NSFW. Subject matter.
The Dirtbag Diaries - An outdoor sports/nature podcast. Mostly stories about mountain climbing, biking, hiking, skiing and running. I think this is okay on language.
The Mental Illness Happy Hour - Paul Gilmartin (the guy from Dinner and a Movie on TBS) talks with celebrities and non-celebs about their mental illnesses and their lives and how they cope. He's extremely empathetic and desires to take the stigma from mental illness and urge people to get help if they need it. It really makes you feel good. NSFW. Just to be safe.
Off The Air with Chick McGee - Chick McGee from The Bob and Tom radio show has his own podcast. And it's very enjoyable. He and his girlfriend Jess (who's a little cutesey for me, but whatever) discuss funny stories from their lives and have pretty much the same guests as you hear on the radio show. But it's much more casual and interesting. NSFW. Language.
Throwing Shade - A podcast about feminist and LBGT issues done by a woman and gay man who are best friends. It's a very light-hearted/mocking tone about current affairs having to do with women and gay rights. It can really take the sting out of the stupidity of American politics. NSFW. Language.
The Adam and Dr. Drew Show - Sigh. Okay. So, this is Loveline reborn, but... beware. Adam Corolla has always been a bit of a meathead. 15 years ago I would at least agree about half the time with his rants. But he's gotten really bitter and ignorant in his old age and is almost intolerable. And Dr. Drew, even when he disagrees, kind of just goes along because it's probably easier than actually arguing with Adam. However, Adam doesn't really have the power to bug me so much anymore because he's really been de-fanged by the public perception. It might still enrage you though. I have to be in the right mood. NSFW. Language and subject matter.
The Dr. Drew Podcast - I haven't actually listened to this yet, but by himself Dr. Drew tends to be much more moderate and helpful.
Dexter Wrap-Up - A Dexter podcast made by one of the producers of the show. He always has an interesting guest from the show and inside information.
Dissecting Dexter - A Dexter podcast by a UK fan. He's sort of awkward and charming and does very in-depth exploration of the show. He's mostly been pleased with the direction of the show, which I like. It takes at least 4 to 5 days for him to get it up after an episode though. Some language.
The Vampire Diaries Podcast - Two girls and a guy talk about each episode with a detailed summary, thoughts and then predictions. Pretty tame. Very little swearing. Some language.
The Vampire Diaries Afterbuzz - The Afterbuzz podcast. Kind of snarky. It's made by a group of women and gay men who usually aren't all there at the same time. More of a fun discussion rather than smart in-depth talk. NSFW. Language.
The Talking Dead - Podcast about The Walking Dead. Has nothing to do with the TV show of the same name. An in-depth discussion. They do a full summary, which I appreciate because it reminds me of what happened. However, I don't find the discussion all that intriguing, and they guys are SO academic and up in their brains that they seem to often miss the most obvious plot points. Or misinterpret them. NSFW.
The Walking Dead Cast - Podcast about The Walking Dead. I find the discussion on this podcast to be better, but they don't do an actual summary of the episode. They just do Top 5 moments of each reviewer. So, I listen to this after the summary on The Talking Dead. NSFW.
Sistah Speak Podcats: The Walking Dead - Hahahahaha. This podcast. It is two 'sistahs' (African American women) who do a podcast on the Walking Dead, and it is HILARIOUS. They go through the episode and summarize it with discussion and snarky remarks. ("Bitch, be ready to throw that BABY!") Language warning. It has me laughing every time. Definitely NSFW.
I am always up for more recs from you. From itunes or otherwise!
