Fic: Drifting Back to Life (OT3)

Jun 10, 2006 16:33

Okay, so I wrote this fic for katcorvi's birthday way back in April, and then I emailed it to her and forgot about it for a while. Like Buffalo, I felt sort of hesitant about it somehow, but when I gave it time and then went back and read it, I ended up liking it a lot. Odd ( Read more... )

Reading this and watching a couple episodes last night and thinking about it, I realised I like my OT3 all angsty. And, to be honest, where it really isn't the best thing for either Jack or Daniel (but especially Daniel). Or sth. I don't know. I haven't fully thought this out, because I'm still resisting the draw of OT3, so I pretend to just read it because of the writers writing it.

So, yes, regarding the fic, I liked it... but I almost prefer it without the ending - nothing wrong with your ending! It's good! And I did enjoy it, but if it were me... I don't know what I would have done, actually. Maybe made Jack see Daniel, but not say anything to Sam. And then Daniel would be all angsty in his car.

But I really enjoyed everything, despite my preference for the ending. I love fics that show a real progression, especially when they tie into canon a bit. :)

On an only marginally related note, I just rewatched 'Menace' and the eye sex S and D have is amazing in one of the scenes where Daniel's talking to Reese. Not really related, ( ... )

Okay, I'm totally about to head out the door, but I just wanted to say I will be thinking about my response to this. I don't really just want to slap something down, because your questions honestly have me questioning my own preferences and the why's, etc. It's probably sad I'll be standing around in a club/bar with mates and this will be on my mind, for at least part of the night. Or the hour drive to Akron. Whatever.

So I will respond tomorrow with something hopefully vaguely thinky. :)

Excellent! Thank you!

And you'll get no sympathy from me about thinking about Stargate while standing in a bar. I do it far too much myself to not be a bit pleased that someone else has the same problem. :p

Oh, this is way awesome. I really like how it feels angsty and indecisive and even a little angry at points. Great work, it's got a great flow and style. And it's pretty. And it's OT3!

I do love angst and OT3 and angry!sg-1. :)

I'm trying for a more realistic approach toward OT3. Er, well, as realistic as it can be for Stargate. Heh!

Thanks so much!

wow! it's fic! it's meta! it's two mints in one!

*dies* LOL!

You know, I think you're right. I think this could have been worked out into a nice, long fic. It spans nearly a full two years of the team's existence, and there's so many stories that could have been told. Of course, I think I write a lot of fic like that. Stuff that could be longer than it is, but I choose to write it in that short, present-tense style. Depends on how motivated I am, and how clearly I can see the nooks and crannies of the story. :)

I'm glad you liked it! Thank you for taking the time for feedback! :)

I think that style is perfect. For some reason a lot of my favorite stories from different fandoms tend to be in that short style that spans lots of time. Maybe because I personally can't seem to do it, I don't know. But I love the progression it shows, and where you mention Daniel's downward spiral was one of those "I want someone to make it better/he needs comfort" moments that Daniel is so perfect for ( ... )

I like that style too. I think it can add power to a piece, and it's good for when you sort of want to condense a fairly long period of time down into something compact. It's not the best story-telling skill, but I think for fanfiction, it does the trick. In fanfic, you don't have to do some of the work of original fiction since the characters and their histories, both individually and as a team, are already established and well-known. So I don't have to take the time to explain any of that.

As for the ending, I like that he came in...it's not like all things turned out perfect and happy for them, anyway.

This is true. And sometimes I write happy endings and sometimes I write sad stuff, and a lot of times it depends on if I'm writing the fic *for* someone.

Not that I've seen season 9, but have you written anything OT3 dealing with Jack being off the team? I'm thinking here of how J/S acted when Daniel was gone, and...I suspect you have written some, and I need to look for it, and every time I read your fic I want to read more ( ... )

OK, now that was Wow! I definitely could see how this would work. This circle that the three of them have created is so evident in the episodes. You took it to the next level. This was so angsty and right and true. Good fic. Oh god, another OTP that's an OT3 for me. Try saying that five times fast.

It's so hard NOT to go OT3 with this show! There's such an amazing bond between all of them, that it's so deliciously easy to make pairings and threesomes out any of them. And a foursome when you're feeling particularly ambitious.

I just feel so much between them, especially between Sam, Jack and Daniel that even when I write pairing fic or team fic, they tend to have a taste of OT3 in them. I can't seem to help it.

Thank you!
