The characterization of the friendship (just to say something more coherent than *guh*) was really nicely done. I hope it does change them, but that they like knowing this about each other. Being that comfortable with each other. Yeah. Great characterization. I loved Sam asking for her gun, and even post-coital rather furious with the Dar for getting involved in something so private.

I kind of imagine them with an even deeper friendship after this. Maybe there's an adjustment period, but I think it would change them. I think it would sort of sweep away any underlying sibling feelings and make them really see something more sexual when they look at each other. I picture them occasionally sharing a smile over the briefing room table when they look up and their gazes meet and they realize that they're both remembering the same thing.

I must add that I almost *totally* gave up on het - figured that it was a dying art, and then I came across surrealphantast simply because she praised one of my fics. And Damn!

I think part of the key to her success is that she really has Sam down... very much so, which I feel is lacking in so much het fic because um, yeah, almost any SG-1 het fic is going to involve her.

While I've never been an enormous S/J fan, mostly due to the preponderance of lousy fic, Jenn (and Rowan, btw) make me believe it. I'm not an OTP-er, so that wasn't my reluctance. It was the massive, massive amount of "we must have babies!" and "I'm a virgin" fic out there, which just seems totally wrong to me.

Sam is not simply a 'default' female. She has character, she has... weight. She's intelligent, obedient (but not blindly so), and her own person. She's self-aware. Jenn captures that in a way few writers do and I love that!
