Vandalised.

So my Overrated-Winter-Holiday went pretty well, considering. I was awakened in the morning at way too early for my tastes-oclock by a text from my brother's roommate, Brent. "Happy Valentine's Day!" I think he just wanted an excuse to mass-text people. At least, that is what I am hoping... now I feel really awkward...

But a second one was much better received, although also ignored as I was not ready to get up at the time. My cousin OJ and his wife had their son this morning, I guess! I haven't heard his name or any of the details, probably because I still haven't opened the text wasn't pay enough attention, and had kind of forgotten that he was even married, let alone... expecting... to say the least, I have kind of lost track of him. Which is a shame because he is one of the few redeeming people in my family to be related to.

After ignoring all these texts by finally putting my phone on silent (and then subsequently forgetting to turn it back on and missing all the calls I received today) I arose at 11 and realised that I had told Ontinia I would be over in the morning. Woops. Even bigger woops came when I made it downstairs to the kitchen and found it in a sad state. Dirty dishes were everywhere, the counter was loaded down, the dishwasher full of clean dishes... a real mess, to be sure. I made it presentable as fast as I could, realised it was noon when mom came in the door, and hurried to finish Ontinia's gift.

My mother works in a furniture store and brought home a huge stack of fabric samples for me. At Christmas she bought me this small almost-not-completely-useless sewing machine in hopes that I would love it. I did, even though it has enough power to stitch my finger and that is about all. However, with time, I have gotten to the point that I can make some half-decent pillows. I had this blue fabric that I absolutely loved ( I loved the couch that they had at the store with it as well- glorious) and this other blue fabric that looked like it could kind of almost not be a good match. I made a pair of pillows out of them, stuffed them while watching Doctor Who and Red Green, and was going to finish them last night except that my father went to bed before I was done. The sewing machine, for being tiny, sure makes one hell of a racket. So I decided to finish this morning.

This afternoon I was sitting at the table cursing my own bad timing and trying to get the needle to go through multiple layers of fabric. Ontinia had already called looking for me, I hadn't taken a shower yet, and my machine was being adverse to my work. After some unfriendly words and a munched finger or two, I managed to get them done and I quickly jumped into the shower, dressed, and left for Ontinia's sister's house.

We were watching her nephew today, as she had done yesterday as well. I think she was a little relieved to have someone else there, but I could be mistaken. You would have to ask her for that. We watched last week's White Collar (Peter stayed with Neil!) and Psych (best fight scene ever!) pushed the cats away, and I made a sweet scorpion out of Knex.

I decided I would buy my nephews Knex toys and grudgingly let them play with them when they are here. But that requires money, which is something I have precious little of. Wait, no, let me check- *opens wallet; moths fly out* Hmm... I hope I don't get hungry this week.

All in all, it wasn't a bad day. We were going to go to Subway for dinner but the weather, as it is wont to do this time of year, turned kind of nasty. Mom had let me borrow her car and she called Ontinia to tell me to A) answer my phone and B) come home before dark. Grudgingly at 4 I gave Ontinia her gift, hopped into my cold car, and came home to baked macaroni. Father and I watched Sleep Hollow - which still rocks, by the way- and I didn't say anything about the nasty box of chocolates he bought me this year. (Okay, they are probably not all nasty, just the first one I bit into this morning was a creme filled one. After spitting out not eating that one, I gingerly bit into another to find it also was creme flavored. Blech. The third and fourth were safe, but by that time all I could taste was nasty creme. Le sigh.)

I hope that you less jaded Valentine's lovers had a good day! Me, I'll be eating my candy from Dad and Ontinia while loudly denouncing one of the most over-commercialised farces in the United States. But then again, that is kind of hard, there are so many of them to be had...
