Yep, I really didn't have a title in mind...
Dear, neglectable LiveJournal - I don't even remember my last journal here. Ah, well. Stuff.
What actually prompted me to write is the Skaraoke thing. I laid down takes in three octaves, but it turns out the album version (which is what I was singing with) doesn't match the karaoke version Sarah sent me. Grr. Tried some cut&paste spliceshuffling, but gave up. Toyed with the idea of doing an a cappella cover instead, but I've already got three half-decent takes down. Hopefully Chris is better at the spliceshuffle thing than I am - fairly likely.
Now that I'm rambling, I'll go on. Finally got around to making a few icons for LJ. Default one is
Catherine Wheel, and I also uploaded
Corsage. Both are by me, both are equation art. If you want to know how to make this kinda stuff, feel free to ask me - I love teaching equation art :-)
Incidentally, my take on the recent fuss with LJ: SixApart seems to be to be inconsistent and entirely untrustworthy. I'll keep posting here (occasionally) - I never did think I had any say in how LJ was run, and the debacle doesn't directly affect me. However, let me explain why I call them "inconsistent"...
A year or two ago (November 2005), I saw someone using TypePad (a SixApart site) for the purpose of mass art theft. Dozens of artists, hundreds of artworks. I spoke to him directly, explained the legal situation and asked him to take them down. He insisted that what he was doing was perfectly legal, and gave some bizarre justifications.
I gave up on talking sense into him, and reported him to SixApart via the official form. The replies from SixApart were friendly, but the thief and some of the stolen art remained. I didn't have the knowledge or the energy to pursue it further, so I gave up.
They dismissed my direct report of actual crime being committed on their servers, because I had no power.
Recently, faced with vague and mostly non-legal objections from a group they perceive as powerful, SixApart abruptly and thoughtlessly removed half a thousand accounts. Some of those accounts probably do belong to actual pedophiles as claimed, but they also removed (among other things) rape support groups and fanfiction groups.
Then, faced with a very public backlash, SixApart did a massive backflip. We've all read Barak Berkowitz's apologies.
They simply bow to whatever seems to be the strongest force. I have seen no evidence of regard for law, morals, ethics or anything of that kind. I'm not suggesting any action, just clarifying my personal opinion. Thank you.
