Dracula's Ball

Believe it or not, we actually remembered to take pictures this time around.  I've been to, what, 6 of these things, and this is the first time I remembered to take pictures.  I had to get a few drinks in me beforehand, though, because I'm so bloody neurotic and feel like a tool taking pictures in public/social situations.  Maureen kept saying "We need to take pictures.  We need to make sure we take pictures."  Then I'd nod and change the subject.  Ten minutes later, she'd tell me again that we really need to take pictures.  And since Nicole had threatened me with actual bodily harm if we didn't take pictures this time, I eventually relented.  I'd taken advantage of the open bar by this point, so my mind wasn't focused on looking fabulous.  I just wanted to get the pictures over with so I could go back to (a) trying to watch the crowd without catching enough attention to lure anyone over to actually talk to me and (b) bouncing around with giddy anticipation for the Cruxshadows.

 Exhibit A:  maxmurder_pa , sixxyvonevil and moi:

Exhibit B: Maureen and I looking pretty while ignoring the impromptu porno shot taking place behind us (I have the feeling that I ended up in the pictures-- fully clothed and laughing-- since I was literally sitting right next to the girls who were putting on one hell of a show for the cameras.  They illustrated quite well the dangers of the open bar.  And yet it was a hell of a lot more tasteful than some of the shit I've seen in Allentown area bars/clubs.  It was more amusing than disgusting, especially when a really creepy dude came over and just stared slack-jawed at the spectacle.  A dashing steampunk couple sitting across from us kept exchanging grins and raised eyebrows with us, and the guy helpfully started to give direction to the "models."  It was oddly cute, until I realized I was probably showing up in the frames since they were RIGHT NEXT TO ME, haha):

Exhibit C: Maureen's fabulous boots!

I had a fabulous evening, and even though the PA system sounded like shit when the Cruxshadows came on, I was utterly geeked out to see them live.  They didn't play "Winterborn (This Sacrifice)" which didn't come as much as a surprise, to be honest (unless they played it just after we left near the end of their set-- my back was killing me, Maureen's feet were killing her, and JT was a little under the weather, so we called it a night and hit the Turnpike around 1am), but I was babbling about it earlier in the evening, so I've included the video for that song in this post.  The video is pretty lame and doesn't fit the theme of the song at all, but I'm so in love with the song that I don't really care.  I always think of this as being Max's song; the lyrics just sound as though they were written specifically about him.  This was actually the very first Cruxshadows song I ever heard, so naturally I fell in love with them since the first song I'd heard was so Max-ish.  So, if you're interested, here's the song.  It's probably best if you close your eyes or open a new window while listening to the music, because the imagery in the video is so at odds with the lyrics that it will be impossible to make the Max connection.

Thank you to Maureen and JT for coming out last night (and thank you again for driving, JT!).  That was the best New Year's Eves that I think I've ever had, and I'm glad you guys were there to enjoy it (and thank you again for putting up with my neurotic STRANGER DANGER I NEED AN ADULT anxiety, haha!  Yeah, I'd been thinking that perhaps I'd find myself a pretty goth boy to befriend, but for some reason, once we got there, I decided I didn't want to deal with strangers talking to me.  Perhaps this year I can work on overcoming my fear of meeting new guys (the absolute relentlessness of the Italian engineer over the summer/fall definitely increased my social anxiety tenfold . . . and people wonder why I'm so reluctant to date).  Anyway, best wishes to all of my friends for a year of growth, luck, and joy!
