Warning: random NaNo related post, but don't worry, it's not about my own story or progress. Instead I offer some of the funniest shit I have EVER read. Seriously, I've been laughing so hard that I think my right lung has detached from my bronchial tubes or esophagus or whatever (my grasp of biology is clearly failing right now. My grasp on everything is failing because I cannot for the life of me stop laughing, even though my laughter has long since turned into an incredibly painful wheezing).
There's a collection of threads on the NaNoWriMo forums titled "Nanoisms," and they're full of the screwy shit that people write (either by accident, or because they're engaged in a word war and aren't really paying attention to what's actually being typed, etc.). As it turns out, 2005 ended up being a rather legendary year for Nanoisms, so much so that a book was compiled and is available for free download online. I'd been cackling hysterically while reading the threads, but posters were constantly referring to the 2005 book, so I decided to check it out.
I'm only on page 15, and I swear to god I'm going to seriously hurt myself if I keep going. The first chapter consists of ultra-redundant passages/excerpts, and between the actual story quotes and the authors' commentaries on their own gaffes, I am very literally wheezing with laughter. And I'm not kidding when I say I'm worried about my right lung-- I really think I pulled something from laughing so damn hard. This is sheer brilliance, and I'm really just using this post as an excuse to take a few minutes to catch my breath. And so I can
share it with everyone who isn't already aware of the glory of Nanoisms. Dude, this is my 3rd year in NaNo, and somehow this precious thread and book have escaped my attention until now. This link above takes you to the page where you can either download the book for free or buy a paperback copy (which I just might consider doing, because I'm enjoying it just that much), and
this link will take you to the most current of this year's live thread.
Oh, and serious congratulations are in order for
ishuai on winning NaNoWriMo already! We're only halfway through the challenge and she's already exceeded the word count requirement! YOU ARE AMAZING!
Now, if I was smart, I'd get back to work on my own writing (especially since I took breaks on Thursday and Friday in order to devour the latest novel in the Pendergast series. I've spent the last few months reading short story collections and forensic manual-type books like Zombie Crime Scene Unit, and I figured I needed a refresher on how a good novel is structured and paced. So it wasn't a true break, it was research. Yeah, that's what we'll call it...). However, I'm not smart, and I'm not going to return to my novel, not just yet. I'm going to return instead to the NaNoisms book. It's just too bloody brilliant for me to resist right now.
