Okay, my silly little bout of costume angst last night resolved itself this morning. I really had a lot of fun today galavanting around the office dressed as Mrs. Lovett. For as strict and regimented as my company is about most things (and ESPECIALLY when it comes to the dress code), I'm grateful that my branch allows us to come to work in costume on Halloween. This holiday is the one I love above all others (yes, even as a child I maintained that the season of ghosts and bats and candy had the season of presents beat, no comparison). It makes me happy to be permitted to run around threatening people with a rolling pin, even if it is but once a year.
I will tell you this, though. After wearing a steel-boned corset for over eight and a half hours, there is no better feeling in the world than the moment when you undo the lacing. Even though I really didn't have it laced tight at all (when I'm properly laced in the corset pictured above, my waist is reduced to 14 inches. When I was fitted for the corset last year, the clerk actually reduced me to 12 inches, but that was a few months after my laparoscopy when I was still weighing in at a scary 110lbs. I've returned to my healthy range in the meantime, so even if I were to attempt to tightlace, I would only reduce to 14 inches. Usually when I wear that corset, I only reduce to about 20-22 inches for comfort's sake, even though it leaves a rather large gap in the back between the panels), I got goosebumpy with anticipation as I started to pull at the lacing tonight. Aaaaaah, bliss!
Five hours until NaNo! The madness begins at midnight. I will be drinking coffee all evening so that I can make a sizable dent in my word count goals the moment the clock ticks over to November. I hope to get a few hours in tonight, so that I'll sleep late tomorrow, which will leave me perfectly primed for a late night at Drac's Ball. Naturally, because this is the plan I have in place, the outcome will be more along the lines of me writing 4 words tonight, crashing, waking at 7 am, and falling asleep in the car en route to Philly tomorrow evening. Hurrah!
